Pill Thief was formed in 2007, Portland, Oregon. Members include Joseph Kucinski (vocals/bass), Chris Johns (Drums) and Loren Jackson (guitar). In the winter of 2007, Kucinski and Johns had concluded the recording of a studio project under the moniker Monaural, and was in the midst of a hiatus to promote the album. Noting a growing interest in a live project Johns had begun to focus on the drum kit. During that time he learned that Loren Jackson had since moved from Detroit, Michigan to Portland. Jackson had been a key figure in the Detroit spacerock scene during the mid to late nineties in a band called Transient Waves, and Spectacle previous to that. Monaural having also been founded in Detroit and gaining a common fan base, the two paths crossed. Excited by the reconnection and geographical coincidence Jackson and Johns began playing together anew. After a few successful sessions and a realization of a common aesthetic, the two invited Kucinski into the mix to add depth to the two piece. Kucinski, a Massachusetts transplant, was a local artist also known in songwriting circles around Portland under the name Enfield. Johns having worked with Kucinski before as a vocalist (Monaural) and songwriter knew the collaboration had potential. The three hit it off immediately and began developing a repertoire. After a year of intensive songwriting and late night jam sessions Pill Thief was born. They now can be found playing in various venues around Portland and will be recording an E.P. this fall, followed by a national tour.
