After the dissolution of San Francisco- based group Port O'Brien, long-time member and co-conspirator Ryan Stively shambles away from seafaring pop-anthems and steps into his own realm of full-band pop gems in his first proper release "Soft Kingdom". Preceded by a string of self-released CD-Rs, Stively trades the tape-hiss for lush string and horn arrangements with a healthy dose of pop experimentation. "Soft Kingdom" was recorded over the span of 6 months on borrowed and leftover studio time with former tour-mate and Portland multi-instrumentalist Cory Gray (Carcrashlander, Desert City Soundtrack). Fortified with imaginative songsmanship, clever lyrics and a subtle dusting of experimentation, the eight songs on "Soft Kingdom" elicit a certain nostalgia for the present. Stively's promising debut is one that will surely be enjoyed by many. Cambria Goodwin (Port O'Brien), Graham LeBron (Rogue Wave, Album Leaf) and Joey Ficken (Sea Wolf) appear.
