The group has undergone numerous lineup changes over time, and following Swinny’s death in 2023, no original members remain. The band released their self-titled debut album "Saliva" in 1997. After signing with Island Records, they achieved mainstream success with their second album "Every Six Seconds" in 2001, which included the singles "Your Disease" and "Click Click Boom". Songs from the album, including "Superstar" and "Click Click Boom", were featured in the film "The Fast and the Furious", and the band also recorded the main theme for the video game "SpyHunter". Their third album, "Back into Your System", was released in 2002 and reached number 19 on the Billboard 200. It included the singles "Always" and "Rest in Pieces", the former becoming one of the band’s most successful songs. In 2003, Saliva toured as an opening act for Kiss and Aerosmith.
In 2004, the band released "Survival of the Sickest", which reached number 20 on the Billboard 200. During this period, guitarist Chris D'Abaldo left the band due to creative differences and was eventually replaced by Jonathan Montoya. In 2007, Saliva released "Blood Stained Love Story", which matched the chart performance of "Back into Your System" and included the single "Ladies and Gentlemen", which peaked at number 2 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The song was also used in promotional campaigns for the PlayStation 3 and served as the official theme for "WrestleMania 23". Another single from the album, "Broken Sunday", also charted successfully.
The band continued their association with professional wrestling and sports entertainment, contributing songs such as "Don't Question My Heart" for "WWE The Music, Vol. 8", "Hunt You Down" as the theme for "WWE No Way Out 2009", and "Time to Shine" for "WWE Extreme Rules" in 2010. Their sixth studio album, "Cinco Diablo", was released in 2008. In 2010, they issued the compilation "Moving Forward in Reverse: Greatest Hits". Around this time, guitarist Jonathan Montoya departed the band.
Saliva released their seventh studio album, "Under Your Skin", in 2011, featuring the singles "Nothing" and "Badass", the latter also appearing on the soundtrack to the film "Saw 3D". Later that year, founding vocalist Josey Scott left the band to pursue a solo career and personal interests. In 2012, Bobby Amaru joined as the new lead vocalist. With Amaru, the band released the albums "In It to Win It" in 2013 and "Rise Up" in 2014. During this period, Jonathan Montoya rejoined the group, and bassist Dave Novotny departed in 2015, later being replaced by Brad Stewart.
In 2016, Saliva released "Love, Lies & Therapy" and participated in the "Make America Rock Again" tour alongside several other rock acts. In 2018, drummer Paul Crosby and bassist Brad Stewart temporarily left the band, and the group released their tenth studio album, "10 Lives". Both musicians returned in 2019, and the band continued touring, including participation in "Muddfest".
In 2019, plans were announced for a reunion with former vocalist Josey Scott to mark the 20th anniversary of "Every Six Seconds", though these were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the band released a music video for "After Me" and continued performing live, with temporary lineup adjustments due to health-related absences.
In 2022, Scott made guest appearances with the band, performing songs such as "Your Disease", "Always", and "Click Click Boom". That same year, drummer Paul Crosby departed again and was replaced by Sammi Jo Bishop. On March 22, 2023, guitarist and founding member Wayne Swinny died at the age of 59. Following his death, the band announced their intention to continue in his honor and completed a co-headlining tour with Drowning Pool later that year.
In September 2023, Saliva released their eleventh studio album, "Revelation", which had been recorded during the pandemic and marked the final recordings to feature Swinny. In parallel, Josey Scott began performing under the name "Josey Scott's Saliva", focusing on material from his tenure with the band. Saliva remain active and are scheduled to perform at the "Welcome to Rockville" festival in 2026.
