Promoting conscious thought through positive vibes, Serendipity Project combine jaw-dropping hip hop lyricism and sultry female vocals with high-energy rock and funk in a way that’s unlike any other act out there.
Recently back from a successful 48 date nation-wide tour with Del the Funky Homosapien (Gorillaz, Hieroglyphics, Deltron 3030), Devin The Dude and Bukue One, the group is currently in the studio working on their upcoming full-length release – ‘The Project’.
Having toured with Del for the past three years throughout Canada & The US, The band has built a loyal and ever-growing fan base with over 400 shows played in just over 4 years. The band was also requested for and performed a few mini tours with hip hop legend KRS One and beat-box extraordinaire Radioactive. Featured on popular summer music festivals such as the 2006 Harmony Festival, 2006 Missoula Hempfest and the 2007 Olympia Hempfest the band was given the honor to perform at CMJ 2007 in New York with a show at BB King’s. Serendipity Project has also been featured on ClearChannel Wild 94.9’s infamous ‘DogHouse’ Morning Show with a live performance and live interview with call-ins.
In hopes of creating a positive local hip hop scene in their hometown of Santa Cruz, the band began by holding down a weekly gig called ‘Hip Hop Nights’ pairing underground acts such as Josh Martinez, Sleep, Psalm One, Qwel, Bicasso and Z-Man with the best local talent in the area. Lasting almost 3 years, the nights got so popular that they were able to move up from the neighborhood dive bar to the biggest nightclub in town. Out of these weekly gigs arose Santa Cruz’s very first Freestyle Battles where local and not-so-local MCs were able to hone their skills. Following the release of their first album, “Accidents Happen…” the band decided to give up ‘Hip Hop Nights’ and start focusing on the music. Since then, the band has transformed into a powerhouse of on-stage energy, raw, uncut free-funk grooves and positive vibes. Serendipity Project have shared the stage with well respected artists such as Lyrics Born, Del The Funky Homosapien, Devin The Dude, Coughee Brothaz, Prince Po, Brother Ali, Junk Science, Busdriver, Lateef, The Pharcyde, Zion I, Haiku D’Etat (Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Mikah 9), Souls of Mischief, Bukue One, Canibus, Crown City Rockers, Speech of Arrested Development, Tre Hardson, Fishbone, Tha Liks, Digital Underground, War, Cake, Bob Weir, Spearhead, Ozomatli, 2 Live Crew, Al Howard, Vince Wellnick’s Avalon Allstars, Luna Angel and C-Rayz Walz amongst many others.
Rooted in Santa Cruz, CA, Serendipity Project continues to expand their sound and grow with each new accomplishment.
Santa Cruz’s weekly paper, The Metro has this to say:
“…Serendipity Project won't be an opening act for long. The talent's there and the market's ready - I'll be the first to say this group is one good record deal away from some serious commercial breakthrough.”
The band is comprised of MC Knowble, Vocalist/Saxaphonist Alma Carlson, Keyboardist Dave Moilanen, Itay K on Guitar, Finn Stobbe on Bass, Keith Wieland on Drums and DJ Spinobi (formerly of Ozomatli) on the turntables. With extensive musical backgrounds ranging from various garage bands and jazz bands to a Grammy award-winning group, each member of Serendipity Project brings their own unique influences and style into the creation of the band's sound.
Their upcoming album, “The Project”, slated for release in late Fall 2008, aims to be a true testament to the heart and soul of the new music generation – uniting genres to create a sound that truly captures the spirit of today’s youth. It features Gift of Gab, Del The Funky Homosapien, A Plus and more…
