Seth hails from the green hills of Toledo, Washington, under the watchful gazes of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainer, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and (when the sky is really clear) the Three Sisters. And his parents: he was homeschooled as a child, and thus enjoyed incredible amounts of time playing outdoors, plunking around on various instruments, drawing, writing stories, reading novels, building forts, going to church, and generally ruling the roost as the oldest of eight children. Seth has been writing songs since he was very young. He remembers making his parents tear up after playing them his first tune on the old black Rudolf piano, but he cannot for the life of him remember what he played. Too bad, too, as he now considers such a gift to be quite enviable, and wishes he still possessed comparable songwriting depths. Seth plays and sings about what he is living through and thinking about. Thus, particularly regarding the songs written over the last two years, and those currently being pieced together, there is quite a bit of diversity regarding sounds and lyrics. This is because Seth has changed quite a bit himself over this block of time.
In Seth's songs, lyrically and musically, two powerful notions come across: the spiritual is physical, and the personal is political. In other words, everything is connected. This means that, among other things, regarding style and subject matter, everything is fair game. And this means Seth will always be a folk artist--what other genre would embrace such an artist entirely?
Seth is getting to know the banjo better of late, and exploring ways of simple living in Korea with his wife, Brittn, where they currently teach English to middle schoolers.
Reminds some of a cross between Nick Drake and Pete Seeger. Plays sing-along works about nature, love, war, and other stuff. Also tours under the name "Seth Martin and the Menders." He has a separate myspace for both names.
