Since Skin Like Iron's inception in the final days of 2006, a major emphasis has been placed on songwriting and recording. With three cassette releases (later compiled as a CD), a 10" EP, a split 7" (with San Francisco's Grace Alley), and three 12" records, the band pursues a mission of relentless creative output.
Skin Like Iron's sound is not easily defined and draws from a mixture of influences. Taking melodic cues from modern bands like From Ashes Rise and Wolfbrigade, combined with the straight forward, powerful hardcore of Black Flag and Siege, and incorporating the bleak emotive moods of The Cure, Joy Division and Samhain, Skin Like Iron's material is never predictable or formulaic.
Despite obligations which largely keep the band grounded in San Francisco Bay Area, Skin Like Iron has ventured out on two separate East Coast tours with Pressure and Ceremony, a West Coast tour with Pulling Teeth, 108 and Lewd Acts, and opened for AFI in Vancouver, BC, as well as playing Rainfest and Sound & Fury. Future plans for a series of West Coast weekends are in the works in 2011.
