Solomon Starr is a gifted preacher, lyricist/poet, scholar and music producer. Born and Raised in New York City, Solomon began rapping at age nine during the height of a Crack Epidemic. The intensity of social chaos in his neighborhood threatened his development into mature adulthood. Witnessing robberies and murder in the hallways of his apartment building forced him to transform his confusion and anxiety into lyrics. Writing eased the agony of adolescence, yet much of the comfort he received came from the spiritual direction he gained through active involvement in a local church. Solomon deeply desired to understand religion and spirituality, so he chose early to pursue a religious vocation following a powerful conversion experience at the age of fifteen. This experience increased his desire to share a message of positive personal and social transformation with his peers. However, while serving as a leader in his teen christian discipleship group, Solomon realized the difficulty of sharing a message of positive personal and social transformation with teens who faced the hardships of an urban environment. Confronted with this bitter reality, Solomon rejected his early decision to pursue a religious vocation soon after graduating High School. Attending Central College, his journey introduced him to the peaceful suburbs of Pella, Iowa.Although his surroundings were quite calm, the inner turmoil of a family dysfunction, poverty and racial injustice raged within him. Criminal mischief, delinquency and self-destruction took over. Although he pursued a B.A. in Religion, a life of piety was far from his daily experience. Thankfully, redemption, reconciliation and personal resurrection came for Solomon during a moment of clarity in June of 2003 at Crossroads Tabernacle Church in the Bronx, NYC. Now he participates as a member of the StoryTellas, a gospel music ministry that provides inmate support through arts in prisons, churches and streets throughout the tri-state area. In addition, Solomon started to minister at such events as the acclaimed Rap Fest and sharing the stage with such artists as the Cross Movement, The Truth, K-Drama, Lecrae and many others. Solomon is also a resource for filmmakers. He composed original music for "Artistic Closure" an independent film featured in the 2008 New York Film Festival. Solomon Starr received a Masters in Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary; he graduated with honors and is now currently pursuing a Doctorate in Urban Ministry at New Brunswick Seminary. Although he has shared stages with influential Hip-Hop acts such as The Roots, Kurtis Blow, Dead Prez, and Wu-Tang Clan, Solomon Starr finds no greater satisfaction than helping to transform people through the powerful gifts given to him by God.
