SONS OF GUNS -- THE TIMELINE
December 2002 -- The Commune Mike and Greg meet. They become roommates in what would be known as an artist's commune in the small town of Union, Oregon. They begin to write songs together and put together an acoustic duet act. Some working titles for the two-man band are "Royal Blue" and "Curious Jones".
November 2003 -- Operation Emerald They move to Seattle with little more than their guitars, hoping to absorb the juice of the previous and current musical heroes in that fine city, while on the lookout for a bassist and drummer to form a whole rock band.
January 2004 -- The Joe Howe Talent Show Greg and Mike show up at the lovely Sunset Tavern for an open Mic. They play two songs for a lively crowd, and afterward meet a young bass player named EJ Sander. EJ quickly introduces them to Seth Johnson, drummer, and the band is formed. Their first show is the following month.
April 2005 -- The Tour After performing in and around Seattle consistently and recording a 6-song EP, the band launches a west-coast tour. They play 12 shows in 14 days, across Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho.
August 2005 -- The Geographical Challenge Mike and Greg move back to La Grande to clear their heads and smell the pine needles. Seth moves to Arizona, gets married and joins another band. EJ holds down the fort in Seattle.
September 2005 -- Hurricane Katrina Mike and Greg meet La Grande musician Luke McKern days before the storm hit New Orleans. The three of them head down south to do laundry for the flood victims and workers.
February 2006 -- Homecoming They return to La Grande with beards. Except Mike. Mike can't grow a beard. It's decided that Luke will be the new drummer for Sons of Guns, pending EJ's approval.
mid-July 2006 -- The Album EJ approves. Sons of Guns convene in La Grande at Listen Studios to record their full-length debut. From start to finish, the album takes two weeks. Luke plays topless most days.
2007 -- The album "Clutch" is finished and is available online and in stores. CD Release show is held Feb. 3rd at the Crocodile in Seattle and the Guns draw over 200, marking a serious return. Watch for signs of the revolution.
