Biography
Spacebag is an instrumental power trio and self-proclaimed “party prog metal” band from Seattle featuring Dave Webb (Girth, Wah Wah Exit Wound) on guitar, Luke LaPlante (Sean) on keyboard, and Andrew Gormley (Rorschach, Kiss It Goodbye, Playing Enemy, Shai Halud) on drums. In 2012, Spacebag released their first album “Magnetic Struggle” on Ladies Choice Records and is set to unveil their second and full length release digitally, called “Pareidolia” in spring 2015. Spacebag is still in search of a home and support to help with the release of this album in different formats. The press has had these kind words to say about the band…
“You should take this music seriously – it’s wildly creative, exuberantly performed and full of more technical whiz-bang than is strictly legal.” (Nocleansinging.com)
“Seriously, it's like they vacuumed Rush's "YYZ," Nomeansno's "Obsessed," and Lightning Bolt's "Dracula Mountain" into one dense chunk of frantic, agitated prog punk” Brian Cook (The Stranger)
“Spacebag are one of those strange and essential creative endeavors that exist in the vacancies left by their forefathers. That is, instead of aping their influences, they clearly set out to right their wrongs. They are The Dillinger Escape Plan of Calculating Infinity with melodies. They are Discordance Axis with more patience. They are latter-era King Crimson with a punk sensibility instead of a nu-metal one. They are a far less pretentious Magma…or a far more pretentious The Fucking Champs. At long last, they are disciples of all of the above and beholden to none of them. “Magnetic Struggle” is like Deep Purple exploding, a lo-fi opera of metallic bombast that will probably make a believer out of your most anti-prog pals. Indeed, they wield their prog well, as evidenced by songs like “Dozer” whose spidery riffs are clearly constructed of more horn-throwing heart than brains.” Alee Karim (Invisibleoranges.com)
Spacebag has had the privilege of sharing the stage with complimentary acts as, Behold the Arctopus, Helms Alee, Constant lovers, Lesbian, Vektor, Sub Rosa, Bell Witch, Castle, Transient, Clinging to the trees of a forest fire, Swarming Hordes, East of the wall, Burials, Great Falls, Diminished Men, Wild Throne, Eight Bells, Exhausted Prayer, Dimesland, Transient, The Drip, Felix Martin, Panther Attack and Skarp.
Spacebag will be appearing with Today is the day, Lazer/Wulf, Lesbian and Caligula on May 13th @ El Corazon in Seattle, WA
