Driven by empowerment and an ever-evolving quest for lineup diversification and self-sufficiency, Staghorn is as much an intellectual, cultural and philosophical statement as it as an artistic expression. Conceptualizing their compositions as an extended narrative about humanity’s insistence towards the destruction of their surroundings and ultimately of themselves, Staghorn’s recordings offer a narrated sonic journey through our self-induced downfall, the animal kingdom’s terrifying yet triumphant return to power, the crisis of water shortage, a peek into a future where cooperative co-existence is possible, and more. Those prepared to open their minds and take the plunge into this hypothetical realm will find artistry and aesthetic side by side with activism; striking composition aligned with thoughtful ethics, both of which proclaim themselves with bold immediacy.
Staghorn was founded in South Florida by Jared and Lx, who were both currently living predominantly off-grid, and their environmental ethics and exhaustingly DIY attitude at the heart of everything the Staghorn collective does. Equally heavy in concept and musicality, their art is meant to create a soundtrack to a better world by highlighting that which is both bleak and hopeful. The band uses their trades, creativity and compassion to affect a working, sustainable future: they create their own amps and cabs, print all of their own merch, and have records pressed that are predominantly made of recycled materials. They even hand made paper using natural and recycled materials to made the covers of the comic books.
In short, activism is the driving force behind every element of Staghorn’s art.
In 2020 Jared and Lx went their separate ways and the project was reimagined in the liminal space of the pandemic. With a new lineup, evolved sound and new record, the STAGHORN alliance is relentless in it’s mission to be more than just a band. This is radical manifestation.
