1 - STEPCHILD was forged in the streets of San Jose, CA and honed in the studios of Sacramento, CA. Raised on the heavy hitters of the bay Area thrash metal scene, sharing the stage early on with the likes of Suicidal Tendencies, Machine Head, Exodus, Death Angel, Papa Roach and many more. In 2011 alone,Stepchild has shared the stage with Avenged Sevenfold, Sevendust, Bullet For My Valentine, Seether, Taproot, Three Days Grace, Rehab, and Hed PE.
The band started by a chance meeting between James Alexander, (Vocals), and Garrett Voorhees, (Guitar) , who were unsatisfied with the bands they were in. They decided to recruit long time friend, Phil “Skip” Braun, (Bass). With their unique Punk/ Metal/ Street sound, the band gained more popularity and watched their fan base continue to grow. The loyal fans of the band have even dubbed their musical style as “Maniac Metal”.
The band then decided to relocate to Sacramento, CA where they quickly gained the respect of local venues, promoters, booking agents and radio stations and were soon playing to sold out crowds all throughout CA. Alexander then recruited Brian “Beatdown” Kelly, one of the top drummers in the Sacramento Area. As the band’s sound progressed and changed, they added Matt Timbers as their second vocalist. Matt had been a longtime friend and fan of the band. This addition to the line-up was a welcome and unique change. They then decided to bring veteran guitarist, Tui Lee on board. With Lee's proven track record as a touring and recording artist, STEPCHILD could only benefit by adding him to the family.
STEPCHILD recently released the music video “Maniac”, directed by Jordan McClure. The music video has reached worldwide audiences and continues to help spread the word about this high energy band. The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their 2nd full length album, "Run Riot", which is to be released on March 17th 2012, followed up by extensive touring to support the album.
2 - Stepchild, the quintet of Talib Lacheppelle, Rahim, Cedric 'Ced' Stephens, Robert 'Berto' Cooks and Tredione 'Tre' Washington, was a hip hop soul act from Los Angeles, CA. The group's unique sound was a merger of soaring harmonies and jazzy, mid-tempo hip hop production that evoked seemingly disparate acts like The Pharcyde and Heatwave simultaneously. Originally named Sex Cymbal, Stepchild was signed to Warner Bros. and released their self-tilted debut--and lone album--on October 3, 1995. The group's genre-blending sound and singular, hard-to-pin-down image--presented a whole three years before the like-minded The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill touched the world-- proved them to be unmarketable. After one video (for "Hangin' Around [Sicka Gettin' Treated Like A Stepchild]") and a spot opening for fellow soulful iconoclast D'Angelo on his Brown Sugar tour, Stepchild disappeared. The band reappeared in 2003 when International Pony released a remix/cover of "Hangin' Around". The original members appeared in its music video. Member Ced Stephens, still based in Los Angeles, now owns and operates Cederi Entertainment, an multimedia company, founded alongside his wife Ariana.
