This is how they are living. Four gents on a mission to create a musical mantra comprised of smart-ass twenty-something’s who seek inspiration from 80s rock and pop culture. Kris Weholt leads fans through a comical journey of his daily musings and self-deprecating humor, creating a memorable experience to say the least. Andrew Starmer strums at the base with funky moves that keep the crowd screaming for more. Not to mention, he drops some pretty heinous bass slides. Jordan Beede sends the ladies wild slamming the percussion beat and flashing his dimpled smile. Rounding out the group is Cody Whistler who is well known for his day job hitting the dirty streets of radio promotion, but rocks by night creating a unique band synergy that is a force with which to be reckoned.
Sunderlyn formed based on a dream to create addictive music for fans of many ages. They are truly in love with music in all aspects – writing, practicing every day, creating new sounds and feelings, and performing in front of crowds both large and small. Their loyal fans regularly check into their MySpace website to hear the latest recordings of their catchy tunes. But it’s not just the addictive songs that have fans raving to their friends; it’s how awesome they perform live as well. Sunderlyn has hopes of releasing their first EP this winter with the help of such musical minds as Geoff Ott and Casy Bates.
Although Sunderlyn has only been together for eleven months, their image as professional, energetic and a unique band proceeds them. After only two concerts, Sunderlyn debuted at The Showbox to open for a five-band set. They out-sold all of the subsequent bands in pre-ticket sales and made a distinctive impression on Tre Straw, Epidemic Music CEO and the show’s promoter. He said, “If all you get out of something is what you put into it, Sunderlyn will get it all; talent on all ends, hard-working, high-energy, and an all-around great band.”
Since that time, Sunderlyn has been living the dream throughout their 48 concerts crisscrossing Washington state. They nearly sold out Neumo’s as the headlining band, and impressed many of the Clear Channel representatives in the crowd when they brought their sound to Fremont’s Nectar.
Abbey Still, Music Director at Funky Monkey 104.9FM who was in the crowd said, “Sunderlyn’s infectious enthusiasm and passion for what they do is a deal maker for any music-lover. Put them on a tour with Fall Out Boy, and watch the fans grow!”
Sunderlyn has played with both local and national bands such as The Classic Crime, A Change of Pace, and Quietdrive. Although their sound is complementary, it’s hard to compare Sunderlyn to any other band playing today. They self-promote, self-book, and sell an amazing number of tickets for each show, always looking to improve themselves and the experience of the fans.
“These guy's are the total package...they're amazing song writers, killer musicians, kick ass performers and have that ‘it’ factor that's going to make them superstars!” said Mike Schubert, Clear Channel Marketing Director.
Sunderlyn hopes to tour the nation soon, visiting all of the fans that have requested a performance on MySpace. With the release of their EP, constant show schedule and possibility of an upcoming tour, this is sure to be the year of Sunderlyn. This is how they are living… large
