About: If I were to identify this band of cowboys, they would have the threateningly of Lee Hazlewood on the bag of Cowboy In Sweden but in the distance is piled a black cloud, therefore it is without k-way that we pass through the storm . Is of Warren Thomas (growlers blocking his way, Grand Elegance), this first album of the Abigails is the perfect of the finger oscillation of our cow boy on the trigger of his Colt 357.
Description: By Joey Genovese
In sunny southern California it’s always warm out, you’re near the ocean, and the weed is supreme. These things make the area a great place to shack up for a while and give life the middle finger. Unfortunately, they also have a way of making all the music from this great place sound similar. While many local acts take a bong rip and look to the beach for inspiration, Warren Thomas and company of the Abigails opt for a handle of the stiff shit and a trip down the lonesome backroads you don’t wanna get a flat on. Songs of Love and Despair is their latest offering, and it’s one of those “transporter” albums. The combination of Thomas’ deep, haunting croon and those twaaangin’ ass guitars “transport” you on a journey deep into the woods onto some wooden porch, with the bug zapper crackin’ into the wee hours of the night. Somewhere very far from here. And it feels great to leave
Biography: The Abigails “Songs of Love & Despair” truly lives up to its name, it is an LP full of songs about love and despair. Not only do these topics become obvious in a lyrical sense, but I’d be lying if I said Warren Thomas’s voice doesn’t rip apart these ideas in complete lovely desperation. Southern winds drift through open windows becoming all you feel, dark atmospheres absorbing comfort for a short moment then shocking you with its abrupt release of things you’ve felt for as long as you can possible remember. Nostalgic late night walks, letting the one you love sleep all night in your head. Stories. getaways. Escaping into air so thick you can barely breath while letting previous things, people, memories, and plans leave along with you without looking back. The Abigails “Songs of Love &Despair” is a look at the past, reminding you of things you once loved, feared, and hoped for. Check it out on bandcamp and be sure to head down to THE SATELLITE in LA on May 5th for their Burger Records/Mono Records LP release show with Night Beats and Cosmonauts!
Sincerely,
