1) The Haunted is a Swedish heavy metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1996. The original lineup consisted of Anders Björler, Jonas Björler, Peter Dolving, Adrian Erlandsson, and Patrik Jensen. Anders and Jonas Björler, along with Erlandsson, had previously been members of the melodic death metal band At the Gates.
As of 2025, the band's lineup consists of Marco Aro on vocals, Patrik Jensen on rhythm guitar, Ola Englund on lead guitar, Jonas Björler on bass, and Adrian Erlandsson on drums.
The Haunted was formed on 27 July 1996 by Patrik Jensen and Adrian Erlandsson following the dissolution of At the Gates. The band released the demo "Demo '97" in 1997 and subsequently signed with Earache Records. Their debut album, "The Haunted", was released in 1998. Following the album's release, the band toured internationally, including performances with Napalm Death in the United Kingdom.
In 1999, vocalist Peter Dolving and drummer Adrian Erlandsson left the band. Dolving pursued solo work, while Erlandsson joined Cradle of Filth. They were replaced by Marco Aro and Per Möller Jensen. The band's second album, "Made Me Do It", was released in 2000. The album incorporated more melodic elements associated with the Gothenburg metal style and received a Swedish Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Album. The band toured with acts including Entombed, Nile, The Crown, and In Flames, and performed at festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Graspop Metal Meeting. A live album, "Live Rounds in Tokyo", followed.
In August 2001, guitarist Anders Björler left the band and was temporarily replaced by Marcus Sunesson of The Crown before returning less than a year later. The band's third studio album, "One Kill Wonder", was released in 2003. Songs from the album later appeared as downloadable content for the video game "Rock Band".
Later in 2003, Marco Aro departed from the band, leading to the return of former vocalist Peter Dolving. The band's fourth studio album, "Revolver", was released in 2004 through Century Media Records. The album was supported by extensive touring, including an appearance on the second stage of Ozzfest 2005. In 2006, the band toured Japan with Exodus and Nile.
The fifth studio album, "The Dead Eye", was released in Europe on 30 October 2006 and in the United States on 31 October 2006. The album featured a more technical musical approach and was followed by tours in Europe and North America with bands including Dark Tranquillity, Into Eternity, Scar Symmetry, Wolf, Municipal Waste, and Lyzanxia.
The Haunted released their sixth studio album, "Versus", in 2008. A compilation album, "Warning Shots", followed in 2009, and the live album "Road Kill" was released in 2010. During the same year, the band supported Slayer on tour and contributed music to the 2010 remake of the video game "Splatterhouse".
Work on the band's seventh studio album began in 2010. "Unseen" was released in March 2011, and the song "No Ghost" was performed on the Swedish television and radio program "P3 Guld Gala" in January 2011.
In February 2012, Peter Dolving left the band for a second time. The following month, the band announced auditions for a new vocalist through its Facebook page. In October 2012, guitarist Anders Björler and drummer Per Möller Jensen also departed. Remaining members Jonas Björler and Patrik Jensen stated that they intended to continue the band, although its future was uncertain. A hiatus followed these lineup changes.
Discussions between Patrik Jensen and Jonas Björler in 2013 led to the decision to continue the band. Former vocalist Marco Aro rejoined after considering the band's future touring plans and discussing the decision with his family and his other band, The Resistance. Adrian Erlandsson also returned to the lineup, and Ola Englund joined as lead guitarist.
The band released the EP "Eye of the Storm" in January 2014 and performed at the "70000 Tons of Metal" festival shortly afterward. Their ninth studio album, "Exit Wounds", was released later that year. In 2015, the band appeared at Maryland Deathfest.
In May 2017, Century Media Records announced the release of the band's ninth studio album, "Strength in Numbers", which was issued on 25 August 2017.
In August 2022, Ola Englund stated through his YouTube channel that the band had begun work on new material. By August 2024, the band was recording its tenth studio album, with Adrian Erlandsson confirming he was working on drum tracks.
On 21 March 2025, The Haunted announced the release of their tenth studio album, "Songs of Last Resort", which was issued on 30 May 2025.
In interviews promoting the album, Patrik Jensen stated that delays between releases had been caused by various circumstances, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and confirmed that work on additional material had already begun.

----------
The Haunted was a Canadian garage rock band from Montreal, Quebec, formed in 1965 by guitarist Jurgen Peter. The group was active until 1971 and became one of the early Canadian bands to achieve national recognition within the garage rock genre.
The original lineup consisted of Jurgen Peter on guitar, Bob Burgess on vocals, Pierre Faubert on lead guitar, Glenn Holmes on bass, and Peter Symes on drums. Throughout much of the band's history, Al Birmingham was also a regular member. The lineup that recorded the band's best-known song, "1-2-5", included Al Birmingham on lead guitar, Jurgen Peter on rhythm guitar, Bob Burgess on vocals, Mason Shea on bass, and Dave Wynne on drums.
The band's first major success came after winning a Battle of the Bands competition at the Montreal Forum in 1965, where they competed against acts including David Clayton-Thomas and the Shays. The prize included studio recording time funded by Quality Records. The band used the opportunity to record the songs "1-2-5" and "Eight O'Clock This Morning", which were released as their debut single in early 1966.
Quality Records supported the release of "1-2-5" but requested changes to the original lyrics, resulting in an alternate version being recorded for the Canadian release. The first pressing of the single mistakenly identified the group as "The Hunted". Later corrected pressings became comparatively less common.
The single achieved commercial success in Canada and appeared on the RPM Weekly national charts. The song also received attention in the United States, where it was released by Amy Records using the original version of the lyrics. The band subsequently released several additional singles and a self-titled album, "The Haunted", which contributed to their growing popularity. Their final single, "Vapeur Mauve", was a French-language adaptation of "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s, The Haunted became a prominent live act in Canada. Drummer Peter Symes later stated that the group had been among the most sought-after and highly paid Canadian bands of the period. The band disbanded in 1971, leading to the cancellation of numerous scheduled performances.
Following the breakup, ownership and control of the band's name became unclear. By the mid-1990s, the name "The Haunted" had become more commonly associated with the Swedish heavy metal band of the same name.
