Gage Bickerstaff was born in 1990 on December 21st in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Bickerstaffʼs musical roots consisted of a great grandfather, Stanley Siebenthal (www.currentargus.com) who performed in vaudeville acts and speak easies during the prohibition. Siebenthal was known for his musical innovation on the marching field and as the band director for Carlsbad High School. Knowing very little about his family history, Gage was drawn to music from the start.
When Bickerstaff was six or seven he asked for a guitar, and when he was eight he was taking lessons from the local music store. The manager of the store Michael Quillin, know as Q, started putting, Gage, and his brother, Tyler, on stage at local bars and events, to play with the older musicians in town. After high school Gage went on to study classical music and guitar at Texas Tech University, under David Brandon, and The University of New Mexico, under Michael Chapdelaine.
Spending a few summers in Los Angeles to break out of his box and understand the music industry, Bickerstaff decided he wanted nothing to do with the materialistic tendencies he found there, and came back to Albuquerque to start a rock band that created real, influential music.
Jeff Bell was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 7, 1990. He was exposed to music throughout his early childhood. His mother, Clois Bell, a musician and educator, got Bell to take piano lessons and perform in both school and church choirs at a young age. Eventually Bell discontinued choir and piano to be a drummer.
Bell was nine when he got his first drumset. It wasn't long after before he was asked to drum for the church youth band in Little Rock, Arkansas where we grew up. He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico a few years later and found many opportunities to keep the beat going. His first big concert was during an 8th grade talent show in which his band, Lacerate, performed a cover to Slayer's "Raining Blood!" In high school Bell got experience playing out locally and learned the music scenes of Albuquerque by drumming for bands including Atrophy of the Ages, Hunting Ghosts, and Ahniwake.
After spending his high school years preparing for music school and studying concert percussion with Jeff Cornelius of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, Bell decided to take a different musical path separate from the symphony environment. He wanted to have more control over rhythm and the art of creating music than he thought he'd have studying music in college. So Bell studied Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Management. During his time there he met Gage Bickerstaff and they created The Lymbs.
