To paraphrase English novelist Arnold Bennett, music’s language is a language which the soul alone understands, but which the soul can never translate. The Set Apart pursue to write new pages of poetry in this emotional language.
The Set Apart started in the Summer of 2008 when founding members Travis Zumstein and Jeremy Koering unexpectedly crossed paths with John Youngs (lead vocals and guitar) and Kyle Nelson (drums and piano). Throughout the first nine months together the group began to find who they were as musicians and how the band’s chemistry complimented each other's talents.
Within this short amount of time the band had played numerous shows in their hometown, including an opening spot with Tooth & Nail’s The Classic Crime. The band also got the opportunity to tour down to California with their good friends and soon label-mates, The New Divide.
As another page was being finished and the chapter closing, a new chapter was quickly beginning. Before the end of year one, the group was signed to Break of Day records, an indie record label based out of their hometown of Vancouver, WA. This new chapter gave the band the chance to present themselves more professionally and drive into a new direction.
The band is set to release their first EP in 2009, pushing to live out their passion to create fine art and poetry in a foreign language that every soul understands.
