Oh no. Not these scraggly faced minstrels. Their audience is not composed of curvaceous pin-ups, dolled up like the Whores of Babylon (Woe be to Nebuchadnezzar!) No. Fans of The Shimmies come out of the woods; come in from the flat and far-reaching prairies; down from the branches of deciduous trees, their mouths agape at the revelations of polite society. These dark forms--immutable in character and inexorably forthright in mind--descend on The Shimmies' art gallery of personal anguish in whispers, painting thin contrasts of Hope around the dim corners of their music in faint but visible lines of beauty. Jack Gingerich--Drums, Percussion, Metal Face, Genius, Ex-Teenager, Heartbeat. 2) The Shimmies! alternative / punk from Southend, UK Way back, in what many would now call the ‘old school days’, four grubby, young, teenage terrors living amongst the baseball cap and rear spoiler generation of Essex, decided that, instead of doing really cool stuff like hanging out in back street parks and chasing girls, they would lock themselves away in a room and embark on a quest to write and play the kind of music that would inspire the minions. Fully determined and fresh faced they all decided on their weapon of choice and started to play… and with time, bloody fingers and considerable effort became the white teethed, handsome, charming and extremely talented young men of THE SHIMMIES! Now they stand before you ready to entertain the masses with their dance floor shaking rhythms, snarling guitar riffs and bed wettingly witty tongue tangling melodies.
