2. The Sparrows were a norwegian rock band formed in the 60's with Travelling Strawberries member Ivar Gafseth as front man. They played a mix of self written- and cover songs. The band is a kind of pre-version of the bigger and more known norwegian band Difference where Gafseth played the organ. Some of the cover songs are Small Faces hit Sha La la La Lee and Pussycats major hit Just A Little Teardrop.
3. "The Sparrows are a 5-piece folk bluegrass band from Bard College in Upstate New York.
The sound is comprised of 2 guitars, banjo, fiddle, bass and the occasional ukulele, bells, and mandolin, and much of the music features thick vocal harmony. Original members, Chris and Perry (guitars), started playing on the front porch of their dorm, and two and a half years later, the band now includes Brian (bass), Dan (Banjo), and Odetta (violin). The diversity of the musical backgrounds lends itself to a creative use of traditional instruments, and unlike many other bands, there is no one frontman, but rather 4 songwriters with varying styles. The result sounds like a combination of Andrew Bird, Iron & Wine, Feist and Nickel Creek.
The band now has two tours under its belt, the most recent being a trip up the West Coast in the summer of 2009.
The Sparrows are known for playing energetic shows but they maintain the sensibility to incorporate their softer material. After the 2008 release of Anti-Air Cannon, the Sparrows are currently in the studio for their new album. The demo includes three examples of their songwriting range: Hole in the Floor of the Plane, Snow Pt. 3, and Shadow Puppets."
