A long unfolding tale, as lucky as life on earth, originating in the mountains of North Carolina, is what brought these musicians together as Truth & Salvage Co.
The band boasts four songwriters / lead singers and consists of Bill "Smitty" Smith on drums and vocals, Joe Edel on bass, Adam Grace on the organ, Walker Young on piano and vocals, Tim Jones on rhythym guitar and vocals, and Scott Kinnebrew on lead guitar an vocals.
The culmination of their songs and voices harken back to a time of organic purity in American Rock & Roll.
Smitty and Joe are from Ohio, Walker from Atlanta and Scott from New Orleans. Walker, Joe, Scott, and Smitty first started playing together in the hot jazz and ragtime outfit "Scrappy Hamilton" in the spring of 1999. The initial line up of the group made Asheville their home and toured the East Coast extensively for five years, releasing three albums independently. Artists they played with include The Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Moldy Peaches, and The Rebirth Brass Band.
Meanwhile in Indianapolis, Indiana, Tim Jones was leading the successful Americana Rock band Old Pike. Signed to 550music/epic Records, the band (which featured current members of My Morning Jacket, Roguewave and the producer of The Fray) recorded their debut with Jim Scott and toured extensively with such artists as Ben Folds Five, Whiskeytown, John Mellencamp and the Old 97’s. After disbanding in 2001, Tim Jones moved to Los Angeles to pursue his solo career.
Adam Grace grew up In Tupelo, Mississippi and toured the South making a name for himself in the college circuit. At seventeen, Adam moved to New York City and pursued acting and music, eventually landing a role on Broadway. In 2001 Adam moved to Los Angeles and backed many a musician on the scene, including Gary Jules who released the remake of "Mad World" (Donnie Darko) which rose to number one on the UK pop charts. Adam has shared stages with top touring acts and made numerous appearances on TV shows as an actor, musician, and magician.
In a staggered exodus in 2005, the band members made their way to Los Angeles where good things awaited them.
The crew met by bringing two thriving music scenes together and making it one. Tim Jones was performing at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood every Sunday night. Walker, Scott and Smitty were resident musicians at Cranes Hollywood Tavern every Wed night with a musical collaborative called the Beachwood Rockers. The buzz of each of these clubs brought these musicians together.
Eventually they all found themselves on stage together and the chemistry was undeniable. What started as a casual musical meeting of like minds, ended up developing into a unique cooperative which sparked an extraordinary chemistry and turned out to be exactly what the musicians in Truth & Salvage Co. were seeking. Now, Truth & Salvage Company regularly sell out The Hotel Cafe and will soon be touring nationally.
Truth & Salvage Company was recently signed to The Black Crowes label, Silver Arrow Records, through Megaforce Records. They are scheduled to record their debut album with Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes slated as Producer.
Tonight, the band is on stage. The club is packed. The fans are singing along. Outside, there is a huge harvest moon on the horizon. Is it a sign?
