Lady Zelda Calliope Vagabond met Mister Dante Philadelphius Tramp in 1924, in an opium den in Shanghai. He was barely standing, propped up against the toilet wall, whispering nonsense and occasionally giggling to himself, while attempting to urinate. Lady Vagabond took an interest in the poor devil and decided to help him out. She nursed him to health and brought him to a Himalayan monastery where he studied yoga magic while she meditated for a year and a day. The two discovered a magic map of time and space in a cave then proceeded on the wild adventures that are the subject of these songs.
Brianna Lynn (Lady Vagabond) grew up in Oregon, had an itchy foot and went to Naropa--a college founded by some of the 20th century's ultimate vagabonds. Spent years wandering far-flung places like Tanzania, India and Japan and then brought it all back around to making music. Raised by musicians. Studied music therapy. Nobody's fool. Coolest mom you' ve ever met. Lady Vagabond is born performer and a skillful musician, also clairvoyant and reads fortunes with oracular objects.
Drew (Mr. Tramp) is from Georgia, cut his teeth on the blues in his daddy's hometown in Arkansas. Mom insisted on guitar lessons, introduced him to yoga, country music and the wacked-out poetry of James Tate. During the first decade of the 21st century, de Man fronted No River City--an alt-country band that gained accolades from No Depression, Magnet and The Village Voice, as well as fond attention from Europe. Between vagabonding and playing with No River City, Drew's own wanderlust led him to Bolivia, England, Egypt and all over the continental US before depositing him in Portland, where he met the future Lady Vagabond while studying music therapy. 20- years of music, this ninja ain't quittin'. Mr. Tramp might take your money in Three Card Monte.
Like gin and juice, like a razor and a boot, like lightning and the mountaintop, the uniting of powerful forces brings magic, storms and intoxication. These cats see visions and use music as medicine. Everything is a drum. They always get down.
