VAL BAUER is an alternative/indie-folk singer-songwriter. While he cites Ryan Adams, Elliott Smith, and Bright Eyes as major influences, his steeped-in-bourbon vocals and recklessly earnest delivery set him apart from his predecessors and contemporaries. Having recently relocated from Liverpool, England, he now resides in his native Pacific Northwest.
Growing up near Portland, Oregon, Val played in numerous bands spanning genres from garage rock to traditional Irish. He eventually relocated to Bellingham, Washington, where he honed his skills as a songwriter and solo performer on the acoustic circuit while attending university. Until recently he lived in Liverpool, where he studied popular music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
Themes of heartbreak, booze, and working class blues are reflected in music throughout Val's career, but never more so than in the material of his latest studio EP, Drink the Dregs. Recorded in Liverpool, the album’s songs deal with love and hurt, the hopelessness of feeling stuck yet longing for a sense of home, and struggling with reconciling the desire to move on with the difficulty of not looking back. Val has released two previous EPs, The Failing Pedestrian EP, and Drinkin on the Job.
