Bio: We Are Hex is a messy pile of pop slop... booming keyboards, precise and spaced out guitar, blown out bass, led by a barrage of drums . The rhythmic vocals pace themselves with the kick, conveying sex and sadness. The lyrics are deceptively self-aware in their simplicity.
The band was formed in early 2007 by Brandon Beaver and Jilly Weiss. They immediately closeted themselves in a storage unit in their home town of Indianapolis. The result was a year of writing and recording, and a full-length record that never saw the light of day...because it wasn't exactly right. Early in 2008, Trevor Wathen and Matt Hagan rounded out the sound and the current lineup was formed. The four moved into a house in the foulest neighborhood in the city and turned that house into a studio. Thus was born the Hex Haus - a moniker used for the band's homestead, studio, and record label.
The band will self-release their debut full-length Gloom Bloom April 7, 2009 on thier own label, Hex Haus. On Gloom Bloom, We Are Hex experiments with noise, dance, doom and psychedelia without losing the pop sensibilities of the 50s and 60s or the urgency of classic punk. The vibe recalls the Cure, Gang of Four, PJ Harvey and the Jesus and Mary Chain. Many songs are recorded off-the-cuff, mic-in-the-middle-of-the-room, in a take or two.
We Are Hex is selling all of their non-musical belongings and will begin touring extensively for all of 2009, starting in April. They will be on the road until the van breaks down.
