*Debut full-length album Spirit Amplifier/ Amplifier Spirits available now* Will St. John was born in a small town near Philadelphia Pennsylvania, grew up listening to the sweet sounds of Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and Muddy Waters. After instruction in percussion and piano, the guitar came on strong, and experimentation in sound became a way of both understanding the world and finding a place in it. Soon enough he was locking himself in his room for hours at a time fiddling with tunes by Neutral Milk Hotel, The Microphones, and Cat Stevens; as well as writing his own songs, collaborating with local musicians, and spending a lot of time in the woods.
Moving from open mics to basement shows to paying gigs, he met members of the folk, blues, jazz, and indie communities, borrowing inspiration and tricks-of-the-trade. Now, with the release of the ever-eclectic Spirit Amplifier/ Amplifier Spirits, he is beginning to spread a style and sound all his own, a straight-to-vinyl sound reminiscent of 60's underground radio; crunchy but warm, strange but familiar, honesty emerging from the weirdness. You can find him playing in dingy basements, dingy bars, and dingy street corners playing his ass off. So give him a chance... give him several chances. You'll find that he grows on you.
