Yak Attack is a hardcore/alternative band from Essex, United Kingdom. They began in late 2010 when the two members, Jason Moreton (drums) and Jeff Hammel (guitar and vocals) decided to work on some new material after a long break from music.
The two of them orignated from a grunge band called Magenta, that split in 2004 to make way for a follow up band called Innuendo. Innuendo gained a large amount of local attention, but split in 2006 after Jeff Hammel quit from his position as bassist. Moreton went on to form Versus?! and work on a solo project of his own material, while Hammel carried on with his own project, Bob & #4.
After the demise of Bob & #4, Hammel attempted many other failed projects before he and Moreton began to work together after a long 4 year gap. The material came thick and fast and so gigging in the local area began in eary 2011. Yak Attack are small time but are causing a bit of a stir with their energetic gigs and heavy sounds.
Their sound is largely influenced by post hardcore/grunge and Indie bands. Very riff-heavy, with groove laden breakdowns, sudden stops and tempo changes. Notably Pulled Apart By Horses, Reuben, Engerica, Blood Red Shoes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nirvana and early Silverchair. But they also have been described to have similarities to heavier metal bands such as System of a Down, Motorhead and Black Sabbath.
Note: Yak Attack is not related to YAK ATTACK, also listed on this site as an afro-carribean band.
