Door/day of tickets, $8 suggested at door (sliding scale). Music To Die To is designed to be the last music you ever hear. And Music To Be Born To the first. Written, developed, and recorded live by Portland, OR based composer and musician Trevor Oswalt (a.k.a. East Forest), the two albums sit at opposing ends of the boundaries of life and aim to serve as an opportunistic healing doorway into the inner landscape. When listening to these albums you are listening to music in its virginal state. All ten tracks on the albums were "discovered" live with no overdubs or computer wizardry. Over five years in development -- between 2011 through 2015 -- the improvisations took place over the course of several hours, live looping ethereal vocals, minimalistic pianos, vintage keyboards, all layered with original field recordings captured from wilderness locations around the globe. The inspiration for Music To Die To originated from Oswalt's time volunteering in hospice care and witnessing a lack of musical tools to assist those both actively dying as well for their families and loved ones. He wanted to offer something different, something broader, and something using sound healing science both ancient and new, as well as music that speaks straight to the process of release, acceptance, and surrender. And death made him think about birth. Beyond active birthing, he wanted to compile a series of tracks designed for both the mother and the developing fetus to be listened to throughout the course of pregnancy. The aim being for the music to have a deep familiarity on a conscious and subconscious level so that when the moment of childbirth arrives the music can help ease the stress of both mother and baby during the process of labor. East Forest's unique synthesis of music, nature and technology is a sonic experience unlike anything heard today. His expansive electro-acoustic dreamscapes are heard around the world, most recently with two European tours, his own TED talk, Summit At Sea, festivals including SXSW, CMJ, Lightning In A Bottle, Arise & Mysteryland (EU, US), venues such as Grace Cathedral, Gillette Stadium and Google, as well as collaborations with yoga superstar Elena Brower and cultural luminary, Deepak Chopra http://www.EastForest.org W a v e r C l a m o r B e l l o w Paul Schaefer (guitar) Benjamin Magaziner (viola) Sage Fisher (harp) We play songs with instruments made of metal and wood, through amplifiers and pedals. The music is textural, emotional, intense, sometimes soothing, and occasionally unsettling. Paul and Ben met in October of 2011. We worked in the front room of the house on Boise St. We played a bunch of shows (beginning at the End of the Universe), hauled the gear, and made the songs. Sage joined us the summer of 2013 and we learned how to play together again. We played more shows and recorded Mare's Nest in the basement on Division St. summer of 2014.
