Boo! Cool bands should stop supporting a dead venue run by scabs. There are reasons that the entire staff (including people that worked there for 10 years) all quit at once. Ask around town, do your homework, and book shows at a more ethical space that does its part to support its staff and the community at large.
It seems like the Know is having trouble making ends meet and I hope Ryan can make good with his former employees and right the ship before Portland loses another crucial music venue. So far all I’ve been able to get out of anyone is essentially “there are reasons.” Like what? All the usual “scene drama” people are acting like a bunch of 30 / 40something teenagers and the childish shit on Instagram isn’t winning any points for the former staff. I find it funny how yesterday’s self-styled punk evangelists have turned their backs so quickly on this place that (as far as I know) has been above-board and respectable for over a decade. Is there more to this story or not? Because it seems like every other time a club’s in trouble, y’all throw $50 at a GoFundMe / Kickstarter and then pin the blame on gentrification.
