Fuck Portland... More bullshit like the constant onslaught of bullshit that has been plaguing Portland tonight also. Nothing is sacred anymore... Fuck all these teens masquerading as scum fucking angles.
What happened now?
Show was ending, and shit was getting a little out of hand. Or rather was going that direction. Some people that were throwing shit form the house around, were asked to leave. Didn't want to leave, were told to leave, didn't want to leave. Fight started. Basically little kids being dicks cause they fucked some stuff up, and people wanted them to leave, and they didn't want to go.
u mad lol
Well it seems like there was some attempt at organized exclusion of troublemakers. Hopefully it won't end it fights next time.
this was fucking bullshit. I have never been inclined towards violence until last night when I saw multiple close friends being smashed with skateboards. Last night got so far out of hand it was unbelievable. Everyone who cares about music and the livelihood of house shows needs to make sure and be aware of who these people are and not let them be involved with what we are trying to accomplish. Fuck you.
"u mad lol". fuck that. yeah, we're mad, rofl. ufuckinloser.
a few things you can do to stop this from happening at your house. seems like common sense but it doesn't happen often enough since people in this town seem to often forget that this is a show not a fuckin frat party. also, it's kind of a primer for running a successful house show. i know most of you who have been doing this for a while already know this. this is not for you. it seems like there are a lot of new houses popping up and these are the ones that are having the most trouble. if shit like this keeps happening the willamette week is gonna start looking into it and then the olcc and then the cops. this is good for absolutely NO ONE! take care of your shit and our community. i know it's not your fault that assholes show up and wreck shit but here are some things you can do to at least try and prevent that. 1. always have someone at the door regardless of if you are taking money or not. if you are taking money don't let anyone in for free who has a six pack in their hand and claims to be broke. tell them to go bum a couple bucks from their friends and come back. also, keep an eye on them throughout the night. these are the people who are most likely to start trouble. 2. lock all entrances and exits except the one with the door person at it. 3. mark peoples hands with a stamp that's not easily duplicated. yes, this is possible with a sharpie, trust me. 4. have the bands start no later than one hour after the posted time on the flyer. yes, this is hard and it sucks for the opening band but it just has to happen. 5. when the show is over kick everyone you don't want there out. this is your house. the festivities are over. this is when trouble is most likely to happen. it's midnight, people are drunk and not thinking clearly. 6. have at least one person stay somewhat sober!!! i know, we all like to drink but i'm sure you have at least one friend who will help you monitor your house. this person should touch base with the door every now and then so they can both know what is going on in the house. 7. have a person solely in charge of the PA. simple, right? hell no! most of us have shitty PA's. find a tech savvy friend to do this. 8. make fucking signs! bathroom. make a sign that says bathroom. charging 5$. make a sign that clearly states that and post it in a visible place. this will deter assholes with no money looking for a place to party from coming in. don't worry, that kid who really wants to see the show will either borrow it from a friend or politely come up and explain how he only has a few bucks and really wants to see the show and then you say you understand and mark his hand and give her a hi five. this way, no one DESERVING is turned away for lack of funds!!! post line up/schedule times as well! this is a hard one cuz people have egos and are flakey. do your best. you're having a benefit? post that shit with an explanation of what the cause is. 9. NO DOGS ALLOWED. one of your best bets for keepin those damn oogles away. if you get complaints tell em you have a territorial pit bull even if you don't. they shouldn't have brought their dog to a show anyway. would you bring your baby to a bar? 10. put the band with the biggest draw last. this should be a no brainer. you are not doing the touring band that no one has ever heard of a favor by making them the "headliners". or put the touring band on when the most people are there. you may have to change your line up a little bit but so goes the way of diy. 11. DO NOT ESCaLaTE A SITUATION! remember, this is your house and if you piss off a shithead they are just gonna be a bigger shithead. remain as calm as you can. gather a group of friends and ask the person/people to leave politely. if they choose to escalate do not resort to violence. chances are if you have a group of friends around you they will just leave and call you nasty names and never come back to your house again. 12. LEAN ON YOUR COMMUNITY! your friend
well said walt
Indeed! Everyone go read what Walk posted!
I was at this show and I am indeed a minor. "A fucking gay-ass kid." I know one of the kids that was burning couches and throwing chairs, and they are definately not welcome at any show in my opinion. Seems like we've got a pretty solid guide posted by scum grief up above. Maybe we could make that a little more public up here on PCPDX. I think house would benefit from some kind of guidelines. Obviously thats the least punk rock thing you could do, but its worth it not only for peoples safety, but for people's houses, bands, and the assurance of a good time. I'd like to think all my friends (house show community) have some kind of self control. And for the record, I'd love to be a PA guy for anyone looking for a sound tech. I've got a substantial amount of gear experience. hit me up: parkerdjohnson@gmail.com
i am not by any means saying that its cool to eff up other peoples houses (from living through 'the wars' myself) but a half stick in a porta potty is something i wanna see...but... those are pretty good guidelines really. if more people didnt just let it seem like anything goes from the start (and not overstep the chill bro boundaries), then it wont go past the point of no return so fast.
the recent increase in shitheads attendings shows for the fucking party or whatever is what is ruining everyones ability to have shows. this whole being passive "lets not escalate anything" mentality is just aiding in these people to feel like they can keep coming back and keeping fucking shit up. they are worthless human beings, if you want the music scene here to survive the people ruining it have to be physically confronted. OBVIOUSLY talking to them about their actions isnt doing anything. I can see how this may sound harsh but the music played here and having the ability to play it has much greater value then the physical well being of people who are going to end up pieces of shit their whole life. fuck those kids they are going to have their worlds destroyed if they are at any shows again
So just out of curiosity, these kids haven't had their asses kicked ONCE for acting this way at a house show?
it baffles me that there aren't more "big meathead" types helping to police their friends' house shows up here. in California, it seemed like there were always some straight edge dudes who were invited to the show for the express purpose of making sure that shit didn't get out of hand. we all know how much sXe kids love to fight...right? at the very least, there should be a sober dude that enjoys beating the shit out of assholes that come to fuck up parties who knows at least five or six people at the house that will back him up if/when shit goes down (which appears to be inevitable these days). it should be obvious to those running the show when a foreign element arrives, as it is their house. if they want that someone or someones out of there, it is up to EVERYONE at the show to insure that this happens. without the removal of these fucks, EVERYONE loses. this isn't about positive or negative, violent or not, it's about insuring that the vibrant house show scene in Portland continues to exist. the more violence continues to occur, the faster the cops will be involved, and as much as some of us would like to take a baseball bat to their heads, it will be way more useful to us to let the pigs find the remnants of the shitheads that tried to fuck up a great house show. essentially, what i'm trying to say is that if you see a potentially shitty situation in the works at your place or someone else's, find as many of your bruiser friends as you can to confront the fucks and get them out of there. REMEMBER - YOU ARE ALWAYS THE MAJORITY! the culprits appear to be a few snot-nosed kids who think they are above house show law. we're not talking about gang-bangers or crazed rednecks here...if they don't cooperate, smash their fucking faces in. if examples aren't set, this shit is going to continue and we are all going to be really sad when the only places to play shows -by design (thanks, OLCC)- exclude the majority of the people that want to go see them.
