    Kickball is a game-- and a it's a band, too.

    As y'all probably know, this show was at the Coop this Saturday, (that's Aug 10th, BTW). We got there late, and kickball was the only band I got to shoot pictures of.. It was packed.. Like, SUPER packed.. Like, 'in the event of a fire we are all gonna die, guys' PACKED.

    All Ages Art Space Rererato Is Closing It's Doors

    East Coast transplants Adam and Stephanie have made a nice niche for art in Portland with Rererato since it's inception in early 2007.. With a last few great shows in just a few weeks, Rererato will be packing up and shutting it's doors for good.. This All-Ages venue has been so much more than just music.. While it's been the anchor in KPSU's Experimental Music Series and key in the Experimental + Noise scene over the last year, they've also hosted everything from puppet shows, art galleries and television shows.

    Groadie in Pink-- JonnyX and the Groadies

    The two local bands in this line-up were amazing, but since I am probably going to blog about them again in the future, I am going to stick to the touring band, The Usaisamonster.. Not at all the metal-centric dirge fest that I was expecting (especially on this bill- no offense, JXATG and TBTSYW). The Usaisamonster has a much more psychedelic feel- quiet, almost pop-y vocal harmonies in the darker sounding minor keys and synth/keyboard parts that weave into with the rest of the arrangement to make it sound real dream-y.. Really good, really different than what I had expected, which almost always is nice.

    The King Khan & BBQ Show

    The King Khan and BBQ Show are a traveling duo, originally from Canada, who used to be in the band the Spaceshits together.. Their show is full of crazy energy-- King Khan uses his own kind charm to rile up the crowd-- on stage at Dantes he reached into his panties and grabbed a handfull of what looked like cauliflower, throwing it into the audience-- awesome!. King Khan's charismatic stage presence combined with their jangling rock and roll guitars and screaming vocals turned the crowd into a sweaty pit of screaming ladies in no time flat.

    There's been a mighty discussion on the Show-Guide recently regarding house shows and the almighty dollar-dollar-bill-ya'll.. It's been interesting watching this hot topic unfurl.We haven't chimed in too much but rather let this one unfold on it's own and it's still going four days after the first post.. The 2-disc set is stacked with 40 tracks from some of Portland OR's finest musicians, including previously unreleased tracks from Menomena, Talkdemonic, Dharma Bums, Blitzen Trapper, and more..     Adios to The Honey Pot: Show House Burns Down

    (Source: The Oregonian)trackingBy Molly Hottle, The Oregonian, Portland, Ore.Aug. 01--Portland Fire and Rescue Bureau said a candle left burning throughout the night was the cause of an early morning fire today at a North Portland home.. The blaze displaced five residents and left a firefighter with minor head and neck injuries.Portland Fire crews arrived on the scene at 6:53 a.m. to a column of black smoke coming from the house at 5934 N.. Borthwick Ave.Officials were told all five residents, three men and two women, were out of the house when they arrived.Four of the residents had to jump from a window to escape.. One of the men suffered a shoulder injury and a woman twisted her ankle when they were escaping.

Submissions can be made online at www.pdxpopnow.org and will be accepted through February 28, 2011.PDX Pop Now! is excited to announce the launch of its new website which features new design, photos, outreach information, historical background on the organization, and many different ways to get involved.. Forget about the corporate shwill of South by Southwest, Musicfest NW, and all other such bullshit - the Gathering of the Goofpunx is a homemade, not-for-profit fest, celebrating DIY culture and music.. Event organizers have a parade planned, a punk rock spelling bee, the world's biggest game of knockout (you know, that schoolyard basketball game!), and a whole shit ton of amazing DIY bands that have never had their music used in a Gap commercial or Navy advertisement.After paying the venues and giving the touring bands some gas money, all proceeds are going to local charities and non-profits.
