Grex is not just "eclectic"--it synthesizes all of its influences into a collection of songs that are unique, fun, and endlessly surprising. The band's mighty, twisted music has drawn comparisons to classic psychedelic rock (Jimi Hendrix, Cream), creative jazz (Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane), and alternative rock (Sonic Youth, The Pixies).
Grex has participated in performances with the likes of Fred Frith, Tony Levin, Zeena Parkins, and Hafez Modirzadeh, and has presented at festivals nationwide, including the Switchboard Music Festival (SF), Sonic Circuits Festival (DC), and the United States of Asian America Festival.
2) Grex is a kick ass folk punk band from the post apocalyptic future.

The band: Brittany "Babe" Friesen, violin and vocals; Nickole Hanna, guitar and vocals; Karina Wilder, guitar and vocals; and Dan Snow, drums and acoustic bass.
Wasting no time: Hanna and Wilder began collaborating a year ago and enlisted Friesen in May. Friesen, the youngest at 20, was new in town. Born in Calgary, she was raised by classically trained musicians and had played piano and violin since age 5. Snow, the oldest at 32, completed the lineup in August and has more than a decade of experience in local bands. The group booked gigs with a few barely written songs cobbled together and have already toured the Southeast. "Screw waiting until we're ready — whatever that means," Friesen said.
Their sound: Lo-fi folk punk with pretty vocal harmonies, violin (electric and traditional) and acoustic guitars. Topics range from heartbreak to STDs, with some goofy lyrics adding a humorous touch. "We did an acoustic show a few weeks ago at the Pegasus," Hanna said. "Dan had his snare set up for acoustic drums and he also played acoustic bass."
Recordings: None yet, but they're putting out an EP on New Anthem Records due out beginning of next year and will have a couple of songs on the label's Worst of the Bay compilation.
Greetin' crow: The girls came up with the name when they fed the word "crow" into a Latin translator. Karina, who has the black-winged creature inked on her skin, inspired it.
Passing the test: "So many guys we tried out for drummer," Friesen says, "were like, 'Ooh, chicks!' "
Hanna: "We have one experience, when we drove out to Apple Studio in Oldsmar, to meet this guy ? because he wanted to audition and drum with us. Immediately, when we met him, he was looking Brittany up and down; just a sleazy, horrible guy — we were all uncomfortable."
Friesen: "I did purposely wear my shortest skirt."
Hanna: "The two rules we had when we auditioned our drummer: Can they hang, and can they play? The dude could not hang. ? With Dan, there's a boundary. We're like siblings. He's like one of the girls — he really is! And he knows it!"
Tough love in the tour van: "The van of doom," Hanna calls it.
Friesen: "It's all gray-rusted steel. It's got no air-conditioning and no windows in the back that open. You can't go over 60 on the highway."
Hanna: "And we drove to Georgia in it, at the end of August and beginning of September, in the broad daylight. It was like a sauna in hell. Good times."
Kombative costumes: For a Pegasus Lounge Halloween show, they performed as characters of Mortal Kombat. "We're dorks," Hanna said, "but we have a great time."
