714 SW 20th Place, Portland, OR
Ella St. Social Club is a truly unique hidden and historical gem of Portland. Housed in the corner of the infamous Pennoyer building, which was the home of Sylvester Pennoyer, the 8th governor of Oregon, he as well served as Mayor of Portland, was originally built downtown and later moved to it's current location by horses in the late 1800s. Pennoyer died at his home in 1902. The space has been through many incarnations including a funeral home and an arcade in the 80s. Originally an elevator shaft was used to the right of the stage where they would bring up the dead for showing. We've had many reports of ghosts.. Some swear the building is haunted. In Pennoyer's day, 20th Place was originally named Ella Street! Dark, red walls, and candle-lit.. Ella has a very relaxed atmosphere. A great place to escape the norm and weekend warriors!
