Jake Kelly may not have been born holding a guitar, but it wasn’t long before Jake and his guitar became inseparable. Never missing an opportunity to play, he cut his musical teeth playing in various rock bands in high school and with his church’s contemporary music group. It was during this time that he started composing his own country and folk flavored songs.
Jake would soon form a new band with an unknown singer named Gary Allan. The two struck a friendship and musical partnership that would result in a major label recording contract for Gary and an MCA publishing contract for Jake.
Never wanting the limelight, Jake was content as a backing musician. The only thing that was missing was an outlet for some of his less-than-commercial songs. This would eventually lead to him releasing his own CDs, filled with song titles such as “Today Sucks” and “I Hate Everybody.”
No longer with Gary Allan, Jake continues writing songs, backing Americana artists Chad Harvey and Nancy Apple, refining his unique guitar style and continuing his never ending quest for the ultimate tone.
