2 bands named Kaleido:
1) Straight out of Detroit, Kaleido embodies the no-nonsense hustle of their hometown as they uphold its sterling creative legacy (which, of course, spans rebels ranging from Alice Cooper to Eminem).
Fronted by sweet as sugar, tough as nails Christina Chriss, the group — rounded out by Joey Fava [drums] Cody Morales [bass] and Drew Johnston [guitar] —seamlessly stir hard rock, punk, metal, alternative & pop into a combustible and catchy signature style, buzzing as one of the most unpredictable, unapologetic, and undeniable musical forces on the scene.
Studied, street smart & primed - they’ve picked up four Detroit Music Awards in addition to impacting Active Rock radio nationwide and earning the praise of LoudWire, Alternative Press, All Access Magazine, Alternative Addiction, and AXS who raved, “Every once in a while a new artist creeps forth from the vast wasteland that has become popular music, bringing along a fresh and inspired style: Meet Kaleido.”
2020 saw them present the Deluxe Edition of their breakthrough album, Experience, which boasted “Die Tryin’.” The latter reeled in 200K streams and counting and peaked #22 on the Billboard Rock Indicator Chart, while the album bowed at #11 on the Soundscan “Top New Artists Albums Chart.” At the same time, their music has soundtracked promos for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chrysler commercials & Sidewalks TV.
Renowned for an unforgettable live show, they’ve shared stages with everyone from Aerosmith, Slash, and Kid Rock to Seether, Halestorm, Twenty One Pilots, Sebastian Bach, Rob Zombie and many more, in addition to gracing the bills of Kiss Kruise, Shiprocked!, SUMMERFEST and more.
2) Kaleido is formed by two young Brazilian artist, Ramilson Maia and Janaina Lima. Ramilson Maia, born in Bahia, starts working in Sao Paulo as a sales assitant in a record shop. This gives him a chance to meet producers and musicians who will help him in the recording of his first songs. These tunes will create his debut and first solo 'E Musica', published in 1999. Adriana Duim, Jason Bralli and Drumagic took part in the making of his first solo. In the meantime Ramilson works on some remixes from different artists including Otto, Roberto Carlos, Mundo Livre and Apocalipse 16. In 2002, together with Drumagik and Hanger 15, he starts in Sao Paulo a school for producers and DJs, attended by more than 15,000 students over the years. In 2001 he releases two albums that are acclaimed by the press: 'Musica Eletronica Gospel' and 'Drum'n'Bass Brazuca'. Janaina Lima is a dancer, an acrobat a choreographer, a singer and a composer. In 1996 she moves to New York to attend the 'Broadway Dance Center' and the 'Step on Broadway' to perfect her dancing skills. In 2000 she returns to Brazil and starts working on the prestigious 'Cia de Danca de Diadema' school. In this period Janaina starts singing, performing at the Municipal Theater in Sao Paulo and taking part in various festivals in Germany, Portugal and the United States. At the end of 2001 she meets Ramilson Maia with which she starts to perform live. The following year they decide to begin the Kaleidoscopio project and are soon acclaimed all over Brazil. Their songs will eventually cross the South American borders: in 2004 their first single "Meu Sonho" is released in Italy and quickly becomes a radio hit. The second released single is called "Voce Me Apareceu"
In 2002 Ramilson Maia (seminal DJ / producer of the Sao Paulo electronic scene) launched the Pop / Drum and Bass project, Kaleidoscopio with vocalist Janaina Lima. Following a tremendous success in Brazil during their first year of existence, Kaleidoscopio's music begins to travel across borders in Latin America and in Europe. Where the single 'Voce Me Apareceu' became a huge summer hit in Italy.
