Kirsten Opstad is a Boston-based singer-songwriter focused on writing and performing fun, honest songs and finding people who want to listen to them.
Originally from Claremont, California, Kirsten moved to the Boston in 2004 to attend Emerson College to study theatre design. Kirsten’s first album, Short Sappy Songs, was recorded over Christmas break in 2008 at a small studio called Surf City Sounds in Huntington Beach, California. The eight hours of recording time was the best Christmas present she’s ever gotten. Dad was proud. Her second record, More of the Same, was recorded in her Somerville apartment Fall 2008 and released Spring 2009. A little more raw, a little more swearing. Dad was proud, but could do with less of the word “fuck.”
Kirsten’s latest project, A Little Unhappy EP was recorded by Charles Murphy in his South Boston apartment/studio and is available now online!
The music is personal. (Like this About section, apparently). There’s no way around it. And if there was one, why would anyone want to get around it? Unapologetic, playful, and earnest lyricism and simple, thoughtful musical arrangements give Kirsten’s music a unique, charming quality.
While not playing songs, Kirsten designs scenery and lighting for plays & performs improv comedy at ImprovBoston and Improv Asylum.
