The four sisters and brother capped of the five state BDO circuit, touring with Bjork, Rage Against The Machine, Silverchair and Grinspoon, by opening the main stage in Perth ahead of booming Gold Coast band Operator Please.
Since then, KRILL have released their debut single Shake It Up Ma on Sony's Red Label. The song debuted in the top 40 on the physical sales chart and Sony immediately called for a follow-up single.
It's been a satisfying and deserved graduation for the siblings to have emerged from a rising independent act to be signed to a major label. It also capped off a remarkable 2007 for KRILL which included playing six festivals in two of Australia's capital cities as well as being called-up to support veteran Oz rockers The Hoodoo Gurus and Operator Please and sharing the same stage with Little Birdy, Dallas Crane, 28 Days and Mammal. KRILL also won MTV's inaugural UncharTED best unsigned band competition.
There's no denying the band's influences are varied with the quintessential 80s sound defining their synth-infused college rock music. Besides a record deal with Sony BMG and a national touring slot on the 2008 Big Day Out line-up, KRILL's internet and media presence has increased significantly, sparked initially by a Youtube music clip by a prominent US artist.
The video features a speed portrait painting using Vegemite on toast to the tune of KRILL's 2005 recording of Lady Vegemite. It had more than 50,000 views in three days and has since had some 300,000 hits.
It was featured on national TV in Australia and in the US and has brought the band international recognition.
The five-piece indie band first released an EP, "The Sweet Side of Cider" , in August 2005 which built the foundations of their dedicated fan base and led them to supporting The Living End, Spiderbait and Dallas Crane the same year and being placed on the books of Michael Gudinski's Premier Harbour Booking Agency.
KRILL followed up this early success with their 2nd EP "Into the Woods" by touring Germany as part of the official FIFA Soccer World Cup Festival in 2006, playing nine gigs in 15 days in 2006. One gig alone was in front a 10,000 strong crowd.
After two independently released EP's, and now a single, the band is looking to record its debut this year.
