1. La Luna is Indonesian Band, also shares a similar fascination with easy-listening retro pop. The sound is a bit jazzier and the band often takes their cute love songs to a sadder place, exploring themes of long-distance longing and bittersweet breakups. The band started out with a male vocalist singing in English when it formed in 1999 but shortly thereafter the members felt their sound and style needed a feminine touch. Enter lead singer Manik, who helped transform the band and take their sound to a wider audience. Better distribution on a major label was the next step for this band making music under "the moon," as their name suggests, and in the studios of some of the best producers in Jakarta.
MANIK - VOCALS | UTI - GUITAR | BOYAN - DRUMS
2. La Luna is a Dutch band, consisting of five musicians, playing a mix of folk, jazz, pop and world music. Members are Hèlen Botman - vocals, Ton Nieuwenhuizen - bass, Rob Stoop - piano, accordeon, André van der Hoff - sax, flute and David Bongels - percussion.
Mostly they perform at acoustic home concerts during the full moon. Since their start in 2006 La Luna issued four albums: Hologram (March 2007), Blue Rose (March 2008), La Route Lilas (March 2009) and Harmoniepark (October 2010). More info (in Dutch) on their official website: www.laluna.org.
3. La Luna is Sofie Lambaerts, born 26th July 1980 in Herentals. who prefers to be named Luna, Italian for moon.
In 1998, she came in contact with Regi Penxten, who was looking for a singer to start a new dance project. Sofie Lambaerts succeeded the tests and became the voice, and face of the newly founded K Voice Feat La Luna. The first single Save Me From The Night was released in January 1999 but didn’t break any major records in Belgium, although it became a respected club hit.
Regi and co-producer Steve Spaceman made the decision to put Sofie in front for the follow-up single. Venus was released in June 1999 and again a club success with little cross-over to commercial radio.
In January 2000 the new single When The Morning Comes became a success. In no time the track hit the top regions of the charts in Belgium. La Luna was nominated with When The Morning Comes for single of the year by Radio Donna. The fourth single Take Mewas released in August 2000 landed in the top 10.
The 5th single Kisses of Fire was released April 2001 in Belgium.
On February 11th 2002 the next single Here I Am was released.
4. La Luna began making music in 2009 and have since played over 200 shows in several different countries. In this time, they have released two full-length albums and multiple splits and live recordings (several of which were released under the name Brain Fever). So far, La Luna has maintained a strong DIY sensibility –all tours have been booked by the band, and all albums released independently. Now located in Toronto, La Luna are planning European, USA and Canadian tours to promote their most recent LP entitled Always Already.
