'Where Matter Lives', Nate Ashley's first album, comes across like a diary of dreams had while sleeping in the forest on a north western island. Recorded and performed all in Nate's own rooms around the Puget Sound, it holds the intimacy of the settings within the songs themselves. 'Where Matter Lives', Nate Ashley's first album, comes across like a diary of dreams had while sleeping in the forest on a north western island. Recorded and performed all in Nate's own rooms around the Puget Sound, it holds the intimacy of the settings within the songs themselves. Laying down the standard for the albums to follow, Nate occumpanies himself with bass, drums, tea pots, bees, and what ever else he can get his hands on to.
For Nate's second release 'Darling I'm Your Devil', more fleshed out arrangements can be heard with a hint of the cinematic feel which eventually led to the work on his first soundtrack 'The Dead Lover's Benevolent Return'. Both of these were put out on Nate's Left Handed Label. 'Darling I'm Your Devil' also shows off the freeness of Nate's experimentation with sound and a slightly harder edge is brought out by his move to the city.
'The Dead Lover's Benevolent Return is the first in a series of soundtracks to be unearthed by Left-Handed Label. It possesses the classic mix of beauty and horror which could have only been recorded in the seventies. There's talk of even a science fiction soundtrack on its way. Original source material is still being tracked down, but it's close to completion. One can only guess as to what Nate's music sounds like out in space
Nate's newest album 'The Darker Corners Of Your Heart' sees a team up of KNW-YR-OWN and Left-Handed Label for its release. Covering a larger range of musical styles it still continues to flow just as smoothly as the other albums. Listen for guest vocals on a track from Yo Yo's Rebecca Pearcy and a cover of a Karl Blau and Brian Malloy song
