The Gift Machine is a Psychedelic Folk band formerly based out of a small town called Anacortes on an Island called Fidalgo in northwestern Washington State. As of the year 2008 the gift machine is based in Vista, Ca.
The Gift Machine is the main vehicle for the songwriting of Dave Matthies, but has featured many different people over the years. Past members include Karl Blau, Phil Elverum (the Microphones, Mt. Eerie), Brian Malloy aka Amigo, Nate Ashley, Alex Parrish (Dame Dulce), Lisa Jackson (the Crabs), Steve Moore (Stebmo, Laura Veirs, Mount Analog, etc.), Jeremy Hadley (Vellela Vellella), and many more.
Dave Matthies has also provided significant contributions to reputable artists such as Phil Elverum (the Microphones, Mt. Eerie), Karl Blau, and Steve Moore (Laura Veirs, Mount Analog, Stembo), taking on various tasks that include producer, engineer, and performer. He also ran the famous Vibe Control Studio inside the now sadly defunct "Department of Safety" where many of the previous mentioned artists recorded, and some, including Dave actually called home.
The current lineup includes Dave Matthies, Andrea Gruber Matthies, and Dan Chambers. New album release scheduled for early /late winter 2013
Formerly, lots of good folks.
