see descriptions below:
1) Peninsula is an insecure twentysomething who should have been putting his songs out when he was in high school. His name is Jim Gorton and he is a self taught performer. He loves stomping and clapping especially w/ crowd participation. He is quoted saying, "I'd rather play a campfire than any stadium, amphitheater, or venue: it's much more epic and intimate." He loves playing with other performers and hosting them, cooking vegetarian food, kitties, comic books, libraries, girls, boys, science fiction, and the do-it yourself aesthetic.
He will be playing in a living room/basement/laundromat near you soon with kazoo in tow. He is nothing like a full band nor will he ever try to be. He hails from Rural Oklahoma, and has his roots in the music of his grandparents era, and other inspiring DIY musicians. With not making music for commercial reasons, he is suprised @ any success he might incur from his humble music.
2) Peninsula (previously known as m-1 and changed due to a legal issue) was the Toronto incarnation of Montreal band Radio One (originally formed in 1995 with Joel Hay, David Sorbara, and Jessica Moss), both fronted by and featuring the music of Scott Lanaway.
The early version of the band in Toronto featured Lanaway, Sorbara, Moss, as well as John Currid (drums) and Jeremy From (guitar).
A parred-down version of the band (Lanaway/Gleed/Currid) won a regional Battle Of The Bands and ended up representing the University Of Toronto on national CBC-TV in a performance broadcast across Canada from Montreal's Spectrum.
Various members associated with the album 'Blue Night, No Season' include founder, vocalist and songwriter Scott Lanaway (who is currently promoting the solo release 'Answering Machine Diaries), David Sorbara (who produced the band's album 'Blue Night, No Season'), Jason Gleed, Tom Westin, and Joel Hay, who have all been pursuing successful music endeavours.
'Blue Night, No Season' (here as a free download on LastFM) has had a bit of a second life through music licensing - to this day songs from this album are popping up regularly on U.S. networks such as MTV, VH1, A&E and are broadcast wordwide.
