2. Susan (スーザン, born Susan Nozaki) was a synthpop singer who recorded in Japan in the early 1980s. She is half-American and half-Japanese. Her music is technopop in style, mainly featuring synthesisers and drum machines. Susan is best known for collaborating with members of YMO and gained a cult following in Japan and around the world. Born to a Japanese mother and American father she had a pop and acting career in the 70s before meeting Yukihiro Takahashi of YMO who helped relaunch her career. As well as featuring all three members of YMO, her album 'Do You Believe in Mazik?' had contributions from other luminaries such as Makoto Kubota and Kenji Omura. She was launched in Europe alongside YMO, Sandii & The Sunsetz and Ippu-Do in a campaign called 'Music from the Land of the Rising Sun.' She recorded another album with YMO members called 'The Girl Can't Help It' that also featured Masami Tsuchiya of Ippu-Do, Shigeru Umebayashi (from EX) and Sandii.
Her records were released by CBS in the UK, though no single ever reached the top 40. In Japan, Epic Sony released her music. She was known to collaborate with various members of Yellow Magic Orchestra and other Japanese producers of the time such as Kazuhiko Katoh, Hajime Tachibana and Keiichi Suzuki. Though all her releases refer to her as Susan (or Suzan if taken from the Japanese katakana), the CDDB refers to her as being "Susan. E" when the Complete Susan CD is played in Winamp or Realplayer. Aside from singing she has also done some work as a model for clothing company Miho Matsuda and cosmetics company Shiseido Co. Ltd.
Since 2005 Susan has been playing live dates in Tokyo featuring re-arranged versions of her releases and has been writing new material.
3. Susan is a power-trio consisting of three friends making harmony laden, hook-driven garage-pop in Los Angeles, CA. The trio met at an intersection in their lives in 2012 and soon joined forces to form band as creative equals: Susan. Inspired by indie pop of the 1980’s and their feminist punk backgrounds, Susan crafts songs with direct, personal lyrics wrapped in hooks and harmonies. Uncertainties in the future, self-doubt, and feelings of frustration are expressed over jangley guitars and driving rhythms. They released two EP’s in 2014 (Burger/Volar records), followed by a full length, Never Enough, in 2016 (Volar records) and a follow-up EP 'TV Girls’ in winter of 2017. In 2018, they recorded their second full length, As I Was, which was recorded in fall 2018 at Primitive Ears Studio in Los Angeles and is being released on Volar Records in September 2019.
