The New Jangles is an alternative rock band based out of the Portland, Oregon area formed in 2008. Their music has elements of both 60's and late 50's era rock as well as more modern neo-psychedelic, and garage rock revival.
The band was formed by two brothers, Nathan and Joel Whited in Vancouver, Washington USA. Both had been involved with music individually for sometime before they decided to make music together, in 2007. The first song they ever wrote and recorded together was "Break In Casually", which was subsequently released as their first single in October 2008, along with the B-sides "I Wish" and "Loose Ends".
During the summer of 2008 they began playing shows locally and recruited Jeff Repman on drums, a fellow band-mate of Joels from their former band, Aphelion. Soon after his addition to the band, Jeff's long time friend and neighbor Matthew Perkins joined the band with the intention of playing keys. Although Matt's initial involvement consisted more of auxiliary percussion, he has since added organ, piano, or electric piano parts to a majority of their songs, and has become an additional songwriter for the band.
Both Joel and Nathan play Guitar and Electric Bass, and occasionally trade off instruments during shows, in a similar fashion to bands they have been influenced by, most notably Gliss and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Joel also plays an upright bass a portion of the time, which is a prime example of their more traditional approach to rock and roll.
They released their 7 track debut EP titled "The Hoax" locally August 2010, and online September 14th 2010.
The track list is:
1. Break In Casually
2. Can't Get Enough
3. Pride
4. Masochistic Narcissist
5. Devils
6. Bad Influence
7. Loose Ends
