There are at least three artists named "Buddy":
1) Buddy is an American singer-songwriter originally from Portland, Oregon. He began developing an interest in music at an early age, receiving his first guitar at age 10 and forming his first band by the time he was 16, influenced by R.E.M.
Buddy attended Providence College in Rhode Island, where he studied English. During this period he experienced significant stage fright, which affected his early performing career. After graduating, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he became involved in the local music scene and joined a band called Piltdowns. The group built a following, supported acts such as Spoon, and received interest from local record labels.
In 2002, Buddy relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he continued writing and performing. He played his first show under the name Buddy at the Hotel Café in July 2004. His career progressed after connecting with author Greg Behrendt, known for "He’s Just Not That Into You." Through performances at Behrendt’s musician and comedian events, producer Robbie Rist became interested in Buddy’s work. The two collaborated on Buddy’s debut EP, titled "Buddy," which was released on November 30, 2004. The release included a cover of Kelis’s song "Milkshake."
Following the EP’s release, DJ Tricia Halloran of KCRW in Santa Monica began airing Buddy’s track "Salt Point." Interest from record labels in the United Kingdom followed, though no agreements were finalized at that time. Buddy’s cover of "Milkshake" also gained attention through radio play in Denver. His music has appeared in a variety of media and programs, including "All Things Considered," "One Tree Hill," "Ghost Whisperer," and "Shelter from the Storm, Katrina Benefit." The song "Westgate" was also referenced among his featured works.
Buddy has described songwriting and lyrics as his primary focus, noting that he often transforms personal concerns into songs. His live band has included drummer Michael Jerome, along with musicians such as Will Golden, Percy Haverson, Al Sgro, and Fil Krohnengold.
Buddy’s debut album, "Alterations and Repairs," was announced for release in spring 2007 and was reported to feature guest musicians and vocalists including Anna-Lynne Williams, Ben Peeler, Meiko, and Ollie. The album was mixed by Bryan Cook and mastered by Roger Siebel.
Buddy has also participated in collaborative projects, including "Side By Side - Duets Vol. 1," which features original songs and cover recordings performed with artists such as Meiko, Susie Suh, Julianna Raye, Tina Dico, and Rick Garcia. He has also appeared in the music video for "Hear Me Sing," directed by Gus Black.

2) Buddy (real name Sebastian Erl, born 1977 in East Berlin) is a German party pop (Partyschlager) singer. He grew up in Bernau near Berlin and initially worked as a trained gas and water installer. At the same time, he began recording music with friends in a studio, increasingly writing and performing his own songs.
In 2000, he released the song "Ab in den Süden" under the stage name Buddy. Although the track initially drew the interest of a record company, it did not achieve chart success at the time. The song later gained popularity in Austria after the Austrian DJ The Wave discovered it online and played it regularly in major nightclubs. It subsequently received airplay on the radio station Ö3, where it became a summer hit.
When "Ab in den Süden" was re-released in June 2003, it reached number one on the Austrian charts within two weeks and remained there for twelve weeks. In Germany, the single reached number two. The song was awarded a Gold record in Germany and was named Austria’s most commercially successful song of 2003, receiving Double Platinum certification.
Buddy and DJ The Wave also released "Ab in den Norden", a modified version of "Ab in den Süden" with altered lyrics. The collaboration between Buddy and the Austrian DJ was short-lived. During the same period, Buddy released a ski party version of the song titled "Ab auf die Piste" as a solo project.
In 2005, Buddy collaborated with Urbi & Orbi on a song related to the papal election. That year, he also released his debut album and returned to the charts with the single "Mama Mallorca". Since 2009, Sebastian Erl has been based in Cologne-Porz.
