Alison Dennis, a.k.a. Dr. Something, spent the mid to late aughts performing folksy songs about science fiction, technology and modern life with the dynamic group known as the Pipin’ Hot Love Engines. She continues to craft catchy tunes and is a multi-instrumentalist, recording and performing on piano, synth, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, and bass. Her music is an attempt to seamlessly blend earnestness and facetiousness, art and novelty. Her latest release, 2015's Tomorrow’s Just Fiction, explores the themes of illness, death and nihilism through compositions that range from psychedelic Mahlerian choral pomposity to hi-NRG disco. She has been playing and writing music in Portland for almost a decade and has previously played clarinet with the group Coney Island Cartel, currently plays keyboards in the psych-pop band All I Feel Is Yes, and has played ad hoc clarinet with Y La Bamba, Audie Darling and Leonard Mynx. Additionally, her song “Life Inside” is featured in a video for Plair Fair PDX and she is currently scoring music for an upcoming locally-produced short film.
