Hate Eternal is an American death metal band from St. Petersburg, Florida. The band was formed in 1997 and currently consists of founding guitarist and vocalist Erik Rutan and bassist J. J. Hrubovcak. To date, Hate Eternal has released seven studio albums: "Conquering the Throne" (1999), "King of All Kings" (2002), "I, Monarch" (2005), "Fury & Flames" (2008), "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes" (2011), "Infernus" (2015), and "Upon Desolate Sands" (2018), all produced by Rutan.
The original lineup included Rutan, bassist and backing vocalist Jared Anderson, drummer Tim Yeung, and rhythm guitarist Doug Cerrito. The band's name was derived from a song by Ripping Corpse. Derek Roddy replaced Yeung in 2000 and toured in support of "Conquering the Throne". "King of All Kings" was recorded in 2002 as a trio with Rutan, Anderson, and Roddy. Following its release, Rutan left Morbid Angel to focus on Hate Eternal, and the band promoted the album through international tours. Anderson left the band and was replaced by Randy Piro.
Hate Eternal began work on their third album, "I, Monarch", in 2004, which was released on June 28, 2005. After internal difficulties and personnel changes, Roddy departed in March 2006. Kevin Talley and Reno Killerich temporarily filled in for tour appearances, and Jade Simonetto became the band's permanent drummer in 2007. A music video for "Bringer of Storms" was filmed in January 2008 and aired on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball. J. J. Hrubovcak joined the band on bass in 2008.
The band released "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes" in 2011, followed by signing to Season of Mist in 2014 and recruiting drummer Chason Westmoreland. Their sixth album, "Infernus", was released on August 21, 2015. Westmoreland left later that year and was replaced by Hannes Grossmann for touring. "Upon Desolate Sands", the seventh studio album, was released on October 26, 2018. Rutan has stated that a follow-up album is planned, although his commitments with Cannibal Corpse and Mana Recording remain a priority.
