iwrestledabearonce was an American experimental metal, mathcore, and metalcore band from Shreveport, Louisiana, active from 2007 to 2016. Their sound fused avant-garde metal, grindcore, progressive metal, jazz, and electronic elements, known for chaotic structures, abrupt tempo shifts, and melodic interludes.
The band debuted with their self-titled EP in 2007 via Tragic Hero Records, followed by the full-length It’s All Happening (2009) through Century Media. They expanded their genre-defying style on Ruining It for Everybody (2011), Late for Nothing (2013), and Hail Mary (2015).
Former vocalist Krysta Cameron (2007–2012) fronted the band during their formative years before departing and being succeeded by Courtney LaPlante (2012–2015). Guitarist Mike Stringer joined in 2015, and both would later go on to form Spiritbox.
iwrestledabearonce’s unpredictable songwriting often shifted between blast beats, breakdowns, and “lounged-out” interludes, drawing inspiration from artists as varied as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Radiohead, and Björk.
Final lineup (2009–2016):
Steven Bradley – guitars, programming, keyboards (2007–2016)
Mikey Montgomery – drums, backing vocals (2008–2016)
Mike “Rickshaw” Martin – bass (2009–2016)
Former members:

Melissa Cameron – guitar (2008–2009)

The band went on indefinite hiatus following the release of Hail Mary, marking the end of a decade of genre-blurring experimentation and unrestrained creativity.
