The Darlings, a power-pop quartet from Bangkok were born in 2003 after it became clear to the band's members that drinking whiskey and listening to records wasn't enough.
Distorted fuzz and incompetence. The Pop-Punk/Nerd-Rock do-wop power balladeers otherwise known as The Darlings don’t leave much room for objectivity: their music – best described as ‘sugar-snaps marinated in a can-o-whoopass’ – provides a purely visceral buzz, kinda like downing half-rack of Mountain Dew while inner-tubing, pellet gun in hand. Their live shows can best be described as “four demure boys getting metalheads and knee-sock clad P-rock Lolitas to chime along to the ‘oh-oh-oh-whao-wo-oh’ choruses of catchy, mid-tempo anthems (‘Faraway’, ‘Worse’), and tear it up for the hook-filled shredders (‘Who’s The Asshole’, their newest and, possibly, best song).” Comparisons to Weezer abound – it’s probably the slow song/fast song switch off, the fuzzy wall-of-guitar and root-noted bass sound, or, maybe, lead-singer Jeremy’s thick-rimmed specs. But The Darlings are less a self-conscious Power Pop formula band, and more of a straight-from-the-heart stab at the mantle of primal, four-chord rock ’n’ roll. - Nak Ling / The Eastbound Downers

The Darlings from London are now known as Allo, Darlin' (due to threats of legal action), a moniker for the songwriter Elizabeth Darling. Under the name The Darlings, they released a 3 track single on WeePOP! Records in November 2007, which sold out in a matter of weeks. The Photo EP included "Emily", a "Jolene" for our times, and a bare cover of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long". Music blog Foggy Ruins Of Time says, "The Darlings Photo EP will soothe you, make you laugh, smile and shake you until you’re thoroughly hooked."
