Paint and Copter

Formed sometime in 2003 in Portland, OR, Paint and Copter perform dark, jamming songs with passages of improvisation, head-bobbing grooves, and spacious atmospheres. Formed sometime in 2003 in Portland, OR, Paint and Copter perform dark, jamming songs with passages of improvisation, head-bobbing grooves, and spacious atmospheres. The group often infuse hypnotic, hazy visuals into their live performances. Bios Andy Brown (keyboard, drums, vocals) was first known for his keyboard and production work with 90's space-rock band Jessamine (Kranky records), he has also been a key member of electric fusion band Fontanelle (Kranky), ambient duo Southerning (Histrionic, Drunken Fish) and experimental improvisers Project Perfect (Community Library, Red 76). David Tollefson (guitar, effects) has created two solo, ambient guitar works on Hypnos records and two more collaborations with Hynos founder Mike Griffin under the Viridian Sun name. In Bering Sea (Red 76), Dave worked with drummer Michael Henrickson of Evolutionary Street Jass Band (Community Library) to create expansive, improvisation-based guitar and drum compositions. Joshua Blanchard joined Paint and Copter in 2010 to anchor the band's sound on bass. Josh has also played in Point Line Plane, Plants, The Sensualists and other bands. Jason Frank (lap steel, guitar, samples, effects) has been creating experimental video compositions since the turn of the century. His blurred visual style has been translated into sonic alchemy for Paint and Copter.
