IMPORTANT OLCC INFO!. Support the OLCC’s plans to allow music venues to admit people under 21 by writing an email before Friday, March 7, 2008.. Visit PDX POP NOW! and find everything you need to support this issue and make a difference.
pc-pdx's summary:
Remember the OLCC letter witting campaign from last fall and the possibility of opening up some of the venues to be able to serve the All Ages music community?. Well it failed with a vote of 3-2 against accepting the amendments that would allow for such a change.

Empty-TV gives it up for Portland with a few small vignettes on the incredible PDX scene.. They focus on the standard hip bands like StarFucker, YACHT, Southern Belle and the oh-so obvious Thermals but also reach out to the always awesome band Eat Skull.. This is not exactly a good representative cross-section on the many genres and sub-scenes that Portland has to offer but it's still kind of cool.. PC-PDX.com : Portland Show Guide
Next time how about something including Autistic Youth, Red Dons, Estranged and the rest of the punker scene?

The King Khan and BBQ Show are a traveling duo, originally from Canada, who used to be in the band the Spaceshits together.. Their show is full of crazy energy-- King Khan uses his own kind charm to rile up the crowd-- on stage at Dantes he reached into his panties and grabbed a handfull of what looked like cauliflower, throwing it into the audience-- awesome!. King Khan's charismatic stage presence combined with their jangling rock and roll guitars and screaming vocals turned the crowd into a sweaty pit of screaming ladies in no time flat.

Like Journey should be left in 2005, let's leave the Christmas Sweater party in 2007.At Thanksgiving time, the first sweater party show was announced -sigh.. There was worry that it would come full swing, but the sweaters stayed mum - until now which is apparently the weekend to plan your sweater party.

last night the inevitable happened, 5 cops, 1 olcc rep, and 2 fire marshals stopped the show and let us know that we were to have no more shows until we have a permit.. Here's the reason we don't have one to begin with: due to the fact that the performance hall is three stories up we would be given a capacity of LESS THAN 49 INCLUDING PERFORMERS AND STAFF.That's not a lot of people. you can see why it was not appealing for us to go legit.so now I have a hand full of shows that I need your help in placing.I've contacted the artistery, the wail, backspace, disjecta and worksound about taking some bills, is there anywhere i've left out?all in all, I want to continue to work with the music community in making it the raddest it can be, there are so many amazing bands in portland right now and we have all been doing our part in supporting that. lets keep working together in harnessing that, whether it be attending a show, spreading the word about a band you really like and buying their albums, throwing sweaty house shows for new up and coming bands, or simply telling someone their art is awesome and worth appreciating, every little bit helps.& thank you all for sharing the excitement with me about the bands and shows HUSH has had.. See you around.<3 Rockyp.s.- anyone know of any good warehouses for rent?. HUSH the sequel maybe?

Bands, coffee, cute girls running an art gallery that doesn't suck (really -it doesn't suck!), a half-pipe(?!),I grew up in small towns(s) midwest and if we weren't getting kicked out of wall-mart (the intercom is [*]+[0]+[3] by-the-way), we were sitting at Denny's, chain smoking, drinking coffee and talking about opening up the coolest place in the universe...some sort of punk rock coffee shop with half-pipes and all of our favorite bands.. HAHAHAHA,My buddy Jeremiah shared this awesome band called Hammerlord - they're on their second album but it's new to me.. If you aren't aware of these classy gents, they ARE SO DAMN METAL.. The cd (what's a cd?) should come with a mastadon fur loincloth You have to approach it the same way as you would Storm Troopers Of Death - don't take it so damn serious because it's just metal.. On the eve of a new year, I thought it would be fun to get in on the “year-in-review” things that many people/publications/media-outlets do.. PC-PDX has always been a huge supporter of our endeavors at The Know, and what better forum to share this retrospective look at 2011.In chronological order:04.01 - FROM ASHES RISE / NUX VOMICA / TRAUMAThis line-up was so ridiculous that some people on message boards had concluded that our listing was an “April fools” joke...it wasn’t, and the show went down with hundreds of people cramming into our humble venue-area to catch a glimpse of Portland’s finest d-beat crushers. 06.10 - BASEMENT ANIMAL / VILE GASH (OH) / NUKKEHAMMER (OH) / SOCIETY NURSE (WA)Rarely are we able to accommodate a slew of touring-acts that can hold their own with minimal local-support.. But when you’ve got the nastiest sonic-pummeling from crew of Ohioans, and a venerable/touted neighbor from the north, support becomes less of an issue!. Not to mention what would be the final assault from Portland’s very own grind-punks, Basement Animal.06.18 - SLOWMOTIONS (JP) / CRAZY SPIRIT (NY) / ORIGIN OF M (JP) June was the month of unbelievable touring acts playing our stage.

One of my favorite bands of all time is playing in town tonight and i feel it is my obligation to boycott.I don't think i could actually bear to see Refused.. The Shape of Punk to Come is one of the best, most solid albums ever released and it never got the justice it deserved with the bands sudden breakup. -That was 15 years ago though.. What if i did actually see this show and it sucked?. I don't know if i could handle that.

Been hanging out at SLABTOWN in NW PDX planning a party (10/27 @ Slabtown!) and am really impressed how the new owner, Doug, is making that place SHINE!! It was always a cool space, but hard to get good dynamics due to the low ceilings and concrete everywhere - 'twas WALL OF RACKET - THIS IS ALL CHANGING.. The stage area acoustics have been adjusted, and the stage has been spruced up and looks good (if you will recall, it used to be a shithole). Furthermore, the kitchen and food look great too - in a nod to SATYRICON'S FELLINI/EAT OR DIE there is a decided Greek/Middle Eastern slant (pita bread, hummus, salads etc), and they offer hand-cut fries as well.. Cheap and vegan-friendly.. Here is the kicker: Starting in November, they are preparing to do ALL AGES shows!

It was over five years ago that i met the poppa of the Portland scene, Arya Imig.. It was at a show, of course, in the dmug basement that sparked it.. Since then, i think we've done some cool things together.. One of my favorites is this podcast from the fall of 2007.

we jacked the following from http://www.indiegogo.com/savebackspace and suggest that you go there and make a donation or, if you personally can't, tell a friend who can afford to make a donation and save one of portlands last ALL-AGES music venues and all-around baddass space!Backspace is in Trouble.Regardless of the role Backspace plays, and that Backspace would like to continue to give to the people of Portland, we have basically been told by the landlord that if we can't come up with $10,000, by the 1st of January, that we will be thrown out.. This means we would no longer be able to play a pivotal role in being a community space for the people of Portland.. We wouldn't be able to house benefits for local non-profits.. We wouldn't be able to give bands an all-ages venue to play in.
