Dear friends,In Other Words, like so many of our fellow bookstores, has fallen upon incredibly hard financial times.. With the decline in our current economy, we have experienced severely decreased revenue.. If we are unable to raise $11,000 by the end of December, In Other Words will have to close its doors.We desperately need your help.. Mini Bike Winter is coming up next weekend...There are a bunch of bikes (yay-bikes!), bands and booze through the course of a few days.13th: Baddass challenge reverses the standard zoobomb madness by calling you out and getting your ass UP the hill.. Chariot Wars take place on the 14th.. This days mini bike party will have a fashion show and performances by Riot Cop, Sprockettes, Full Face Riot, Chain Reaction and Nerds on Wheels (still undisclosed location). The 15th has an Alley Cat race, olympic events and the standard zoobomb stylee.For the full and up-to-date info, be sure to check out the Zoobomb website.

Useless State Records is in the process of collecting tracks from Portland DIY bands to issue the first ever Portland Show Guide Mixtape.. The Show Guide is an integral part of our burgeoning do-it-together musical community, one that has helped us as musicians an infinite amount since its inception.. It is one of the few websites across the country that displays and promotes house shows as well as venues, and is unique because the community can post their own shows, blogs, and messages.. All proceeds from this tape will go to support the increasingly expensive-to-run Portland Show Guide.

PDX Pop Now! -- Portland's premier DIY music festival, compilation and music advocacy organization - has begun accepting submissions for its 2011 compilation.. Submissions can be made online at www.pdxpopnow.org and will be accepted through February 28, 2011.PDX Pop Now! is excited to announce the launch of its new website which features new design, photos, outreach information, historical background on the organization, and many different ways to get involved.. PDX Pop Now! will be holding its first 2011 volunteer meeting on Tuesday, January 18, 7-9 p.m. at Backspace.. At the meeting volunteers can apply for the booking committee, sign up to be on the compilation listening, marketing and fundraising committees or to volunteer at the festival.

"Anyone know what CMS this site is based off of?"This site is 100% custom freshness!It started in 2007 as a hardcoded mess - i literally updated the show listings by hand every night at midnight to remove the old shows.Jan 1st 2008 saw version #2 where we actually got a database and pc-pdx started becoming a real website, the wiki format that it is today - rather than a static mess.~July 2009 came version #3, the Red + Black version where the site really started to take off.. The site started to become more user friendly - we had some hits and misses with features..(membership like features were a HUGE failure) It started getting really slow and cumbersome towards the end of its run because i learned to code along with this site and it hasn't always been the highest preforming, scalable implementation.July 5th 2010 - this current version breached the septic internet womb and came into fruition.. A lot of cool new features were added but now that it's so many months later, i see a lot of places for improvement.. You guys might have seen the "Ohhh shit!

East End is closed for at least this weekend due to the fire that took place at the Osborn Building this morning as reported by KATU.. East End will reopen as soon as possible.. How long will depend on the extent of damage inside the bar and show room.. We will keep people updated about our status through the website at www.eastendportand.com (the design of which by the way was recently updated by our good friends at DBmonkey so this is a great time to check that out!) and via these email list updates.
