Detailed biographies:
ALSO is a Los Angeles indie/alternative-electronic duo — vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Drew Roger Conrad and multi-instrumentalist Mark Zelen — who have been writing together for over two decades. The band makes music where the dreamy, the dark, and the cinematic collide: modern synthpop woven with the emotional weight of 80s icons like Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, and New Order — shimmering nostalgia set against brooding synths and atmospheric textures.
Within these soundscapes, ALSO confronts difficult themes — depression, bullying, suicide — not to romanticize them, but to offer honesty and connection. "There's nothing artsy about depression or mysterious about suicide," Conrad says. "It's horrific. But it's real, and if our music helps someone feel less alone, then it matters."
True to their name, ALSO embraces duality: shadow and light, melancholy and hope, the intimate and the cinematic — a reminder that there are always multiple ways to look at any given situation.
Formed in 2003, the band began as a three-piece with drummer Scotland Stephenson. Their first release, the self-recorded EP Morning, hinted at duality from the start — night giving way to morning, but also a play on "mourning" — the same tension between darkness and light that would eventually shape the band's very name. Following Stephenson's departure after the release of the Chinese Ghost City EP, Conrad and Zelen reconfigured ALSO as a duo, incorporating drum machines and electronic production — a shift that shaped the sound the band carries today.
ALSO has toured extensively throughout Europe and been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered. Their track "Limousine" (from Chinese Ghost City) appeared on a Birdstone Records compilation alongside Grant-Lee Phillips and Rachael Yamagata. The band is regularly played on radio on both sides of the Atlantic, including KCRW in Los Angeles and Radio C Luxembourg in Europe.

From their earliest recordings in 2003 to today, ALSO's songs return to the same questions — how to sit with pain, how to find connection inside it. The sound has changed considerably over two decades; what the band is actually trying to say never has.
2) Also was a gothic rock / post-punk band from Germany. According to Goth specialist Mick Mercer, they are "one of Germany's best kept secrets" (Hex files - The Goth Bible). Also's "existenzialistische popmusik" was performed by Olive Gnass (bass player and the rich, partly programmed percussion), Tine Warmhold (guitars) and Alexander Dusts (vocals).
Also self-released their music on MC and CDR.
